Just looked at the "watch shop thread" and made me think

Are there watch shops that you can negotiate a decent discount?

I bought a watch for my daughters 18th nearly 2 years ago from a shop in Southampton, where after going around 2 to 3 others managed to secure a deal for £300 less than if I had just walked into the first shop and paid the price advertised

mercenary as I am saving for a Planet Ocean smile

I got 12% off a Moonwatch in Goldsmiths a month or two before Christmas.

Fairly easy to get them to drop to that, but not a penny lower.

Dom Hackett at Hackett Watches would be my 'go to' for Omega.

15% should be easily achievable at First Class Watches (aka James Moore Jewellers).
Sometimes in the sales there's in excess of 30%

Is the discount his advertised price on the website, or do you get a 'special' price if you ask?

I am after a new 2018 Seamaster 300 and found them for £3k in Heathrow which is £600 under the RRP.

Just got to decide on the colour...

Another recommendation for Dom from me following my recent Omega purchase.

I feel it would be inappropriate to post details of the deal since he's "one of us" - but I was very happy with the price and he was a pleasure to deal with.

I think its perfectly reasonable to try and ask for a discount on such a large purchase.

Expect at least 10-15% on most mainstream models, of course anything ltd edition, or in short supply a AD wont be offering discounts due to lack of stocks or waiting lists.

Good luck, and be cheeky!

If you don't ask, you don't get is generally true of discounts. But also, if you are offered a discount without asking, then ask for more.

They told me today that it was a discount or the 0% finance and that they only do 12mths interest free on watches in the sale.

Slightly frustrating experience if I'm honest having had a conversation on Sunday afternoon there

When I wanted buy a Omega Seamaster 15 years ago I called Gassan at Heathrow T1 (I don't think they are there anymore, but they have a large store at Schiphol). They offered me tax-free less 10%. At the time the watch was over 1k on the high street - I seem to recall paying about £800. I didn't even have to go through the airport as the salesman brought it around to my house in Isleworth.

I tell this little story to illustrate that you could call around the airports - here or elsewhere and see what deal you can make.

To be fair, you can see their point, i'm not aware of many places that'll offer 0% finance, and a 12% discount, best way to swerve that issue, is to use a 0% credit card (something like 24 months on purchases -Virgin did offer this) then haggle the bigger discount on the list price. Id have asked for 20% (VAT free) and work back from that. I got 22% off my Omega Regatta a few years ago.

This is true and I agree. Frustrating though when the watch isn't priced in the window (and still isn't today) and when chatting to the salesman on Sunday they tell you that until last week it was on offer (and that they think it is still) and you can have 0% finance only to be told that you can't. First world problems

Yes i suspect the salesperson wasnt sure on what he/she could offer.

I would say that if they are offering 0% on a sale item thats also pretty decent.

Def 1st world problems :-)
