I’m moving to NZ in about 5 weeks.

I have been thinking of selling a couple or my watches - a steel Daytona and steel Nautilus. However not sure I can part with them.

Now thinking that perhaps I should get them serviced before I leave as possibly easier here than in NZ. However my local shop that is official dealer for Rolex and PP said yesterday that timing for service is around 6-8 weeks for Rolex and 2-3 months for PP.

Are there alternatives outside the official dealers that use official parts, do a good job and can turn it around more quickly? Would it negatively impact the future values of the watches?

As far as I’m aware, Rolex don’t make service parts available for the Daytona for independent service agents. So, you’re stuck with Rolex approved. Just wait til you’re down in NZ, or, sell unserviced. I doubt I could do with the hassle before emigrating.

Watchworks in Bristol are Rolex approved and should be able to just about turn it around in that time if you’re quick on getting it to them. Would need a call Monday though, it’s very tight timescale wise. Tell them I sent you (Baz).

Servicing should not require any parts. Perhaps a few replacement seals, but that should be it.

I used watchguy.co.uk for my Rolex datejust recently really happy with the service, received lots of photos and also all the old seals/spring back. Only downside is turn around is about 5 weeks.

Which is great until the service centre calls to inform you that something really should be replaced, and probably in the next year or two. So now you'll end up paying twice, one cheap but incomplete, and one expensive through Rolex.

We can go round and round on this.
The point of regular servicing is to keep everything lubricated such that the bearings and pivots do not need replacing. If you dropped it and it needs a repair, OK send it to the main dealer. If everything is working nicely, there is no part of a service that can not be undertaken by a competent independent.

I have enough to sort out with the move to NZ to worry about getting them back before I leave so will wait until I arrive and then go to the official dealer in Auckland.

Partidges will handle you fine in Auckland (Brit living in Auckland here).
