I'm looking for a new watch and have always loved the look of the 60s Carreras. Black face 2 dial models specifically, leather sports strap.

A decent one though sells for thousands and that's more than I'm willing to pay.

So, i'm looking for ideas. Something with the same looks/style. Looking to pay £1.5k-£2k. New or pre-owned but we're talking something to wear daily and not bothered about it as an investment

One dial too many, but it’s definitely in budget!

Hamilton Intra-Matic 68. New watch, but vintage styled.

They have the Valjoux 92, 7730 or 7733 movements ( I think they also had Venus or similar, not sure of that tho)

Loads and loads of companies used the Valjoux movements. Excluding Heuer and Breitling they can be picked up for not huge amounts of cash. Most will be made by fairly unheard of companies, eBay and chrono24 usually have a few for sale.

You could have a look for Leonidas which are pre Heuer, not sure you’ll find a black dial though.

Budget creep but I love these, WF sell for £3250 so probably pay £2k for them you should be able to get one privately for around £2500 I would have thought.

Bell & Ross might also be worth looking at. They do some good looking chronographs for around that budget.

Wrong number of dials but looks lovely. You'll get another 10% by subscribing to the newsletter as well.

Wrong number of dials but may work, especially with a replacement strap. The case size is also more in keeping with a vintage watch too. Also well under budget.

This is where I would be looking! I bought a Wakmann chrono a few years ago for not much money. They seem to have gone up a bit recently but bargains still to be had. Lots of vintage brands to choose from - Wakmann, Gigandet, Oriosa.

Good terms to search on eBay are 'valjoux chrono' and 'incabloc'. Tick 'Title and description'. It will bring up stuff like this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Oriosa-Chronograph-Vint...

For a more modern option, you could consider a Hamilton 9379 though it's a fair bit chunkier.

EDIT: Just noticed the budget! Sorry I went a bit low biggrin

I would be looking for a Breitling Top Time at that money.

Tag reissued the carrera with an ETA 2894 chronograph, called the CV2111, although it has three subdials not two like the one you posted. Should be within budget good used:

Plexi-glass from memory, which may be a bit too vintage feel for many.

The CV211e may be available used, too. Some versions are branded Heuer, not Tag Heuer, which helps with the vintage vibe:

Longines do a 2 dial chrono for a shade under £2k.
Just found it even cheaper here. Not black faced though and may be a little too classic perhaps:

Nope not lost interest, simply looking at all the options. Thanks for all that have posted.

Number of sub dials isn't an issue. I posted a 2 dial one as I prefer a less cluttered look. I also prefer smaller watches than those that are mostly released at the moment - I've small wrists. The Tag CV2111 pictured above looks very nice.

Pre-owned may be off the table though. This is a combined 50th birthday / 20th anniversary gift from my wife and she insists on buying a new watch. Restricts options but I think a bit of budget creep may be allowed.

You can pick up speedmaster reduced automatic on the used market for about £1400 nowadays I think.

Think this is slightly over budget, bit seems like a great price for a great piece.

https://www.chisholmhunter.co.uk/gents-tudor-fastr...

There's also this a lot less than what you want to spend. If it's just an itch for a vintage looking chrono.
