Hi All,

Just been quoted £85 and 4 week turnaround to replace a G Shock battery and pressure test.

I was expecting £35 and done in a day.

Is this the going rate?

Thanks,

Dicky

Depending on how precious you are about the pressure test it’s a £2 battery and a small screwdriver...

It’s actually four batteries for less than £2 if you buy from Amazon.

The pressure testing matters but for a couple of quid I might try and change it.

A new one is £99 on TKMaxx so not a disaster if it doesn't seal.

If you haven’t done so already, I recommend you watch a few YouTube tutorials, if you haven’t changed a G-Shock battery before.

There’s usually a little spring that needs to be kept in situ (don’t flip the watch dial-side up or it’ll fall out and you may lose it, along with alarm/sound function).

The battery clip can be fiddly.

There’s also a reset procedure once the new battery is installed.

Keep your removed screws grouped separately so you don’t mix or lose them - different ones for different parts (and there may be a lot of protective guff to remove).

A small pot of silicone grease will see the gasket refreshed (make sure it’s seated properly & oriented the right way) and most likely keep the water resistance sufficient.

It’s not hard or skilled, just a bit more involved than your common-or-garden quartz watch.

Pressure test is optional, battery replacement itself would be miles cheaper. No matter what they charge.

i had my battery changed just recently at the timpsons shop Aberdeen, Union Street. Did everything Casio would do bar the pressure test. Was ready in an hour and i have used it offshore sat diving since. All good. would not bother with the pressure test unless specific reason?

Thanks all for your replies.

The pressure test is only because it sees some dusty/muddy/wet conditions so maybe it doesn't matter.

I think I'll have a go at it myself and if I fk it up I'll just buy a new one.

And cheers for the YouTube tip!

I bought a solar charged Pathfinder for that very reason.

It's been in constant use since 2011 and never had to opened.

Man maths at its finest here but this is what i do.

Get the battery changed on the cheap no pressure test.

Use the money saved to get a new 2nd G-Shock that will be waterproofed

Agree that it may not be pressure tested but at least if it leaks you have some comeback with Casio.

Plus another watch always equals happy!
