I'm on the hunt for a new watch for the collection. What started out as plan to find a replacement for a tired (read broken) Pulsar dress watch (silver dial / black leather strap) has turned into a 'not sure' what I want style hunt.

My current hoard features a divers sub watch (C60 trident) , a more casual CW DBR1 and then my recent purchase a Omega Moon Watch.

I'd love a Rolex Daytona but the budget won't stretch any where near that currently! Popped into Beaverbrooks in MK for a browse over the weekend and tried a few bits and bobs on including a silver/gold tag (which confirmed that I really don't like yellow gold on watches), a brietling (far too busy on the face), a rose gold/silver Omega Seamaster (my wifes choice) and then a couple of Zenith watches which have really taken my fancy.

I know that I want the 42mm case, I think that I would get more wear from the watch if it was on a bracelet BUT I do think that the rose gold breaks up the watch (however they don't seem to do a rose gold version on a bracelet).

That's before you get to the 'open heart' faces (again i'm on the fence here).

I'm sure i'll be more than happy with any of them.

Rose gold bezel / leather strap - more dress watch (which was the original requirement) but maybe too much day to day
Silver bezel / bracelet - more likely to wear it day to day but is it too 'similar' to my moonwatch

Any other ideas of what I could look at? I tend to prefer more 70s style watches, doesn't need to be chrono, would prefer automatic and happy to buy 2nd hand

Zenith are lovely and on my list for my next purchase.

Dress watch with a 60's feel:

If you can go to 40mm, this is a beauty:

Have a look around Chrono24 as they are a good buy second hand and they have quite a few retro styles.

Personally I like the third from left. Open heart, black leather strap. Lovely.

That's where I've been looking. Lots of different options out there

Have you tried one on?

I personally found them better looking in photos than in the flesh and, if I recall correctly, they don't have hacking movements.

I know what you mean about Breitlings being "busy", but surely the Zeniths you've listed are not exactly bauhaus...

Zeniths are far classier looking IMHO.

I had to Google bauhaus (heathen I know).

This is part of my issue, I think I may be trying to tie two watches into a single one.

That second from the left Zenith Chronomaster El Primero 36'000 VPH in 42mm and bracelet is definitely on my ‘one of my next watches’ list.

It’s about 2k more for the open heart and I’m not sure I even like it.

Yes, I tried a few on, quite liked them, but I felt that the bracelet with the silver bezel just didn't work (it may be just because i'm used to having watches with contrasting bezels/straps)

If they did something like this I think i'd snap it up (excuse the poor paint attempt)

A silver (stainless steel) bracket and bezel is pretty much the most common combination of bracelet and case and has been for years.

I think that combination you’ve made looks awful, that’s why you’ll struggle to find any manufacturer making bimetallic cases with stainless steel bracelets. hehe

I think it's just because i'm not used to it. I've also either had the contrast of the strap or a coloured bezel.

Excuse the poor photo:

What is the battered one with green dial?

Christopher Ward DRB1 - It's certainly well worn and could do with a new strap but I still enjoy wearing it
