The under £500 Watch thread!
Discussion
Title may be a bit misleading but thought it might have legs as the next step up from the £200 thread!
I am tying the knot in November and although we are exchanging Rings, the future Mrs has said she will also buy me a Watch. After a previous post on here, it doesn't seem that the budget will stretch to a Hydroconquest so we are now looking at something around £400
I tried on a Tissot Seastar Chronograph at the weekend which was very nice, but is there anything else to consider at this price point - Seiko Prospex etc? I like the concept of the Undone customisation but the choice of straps puts me off

If you're happy with Quartz, I would recommend these Farers:

Another vote for Bulova
Either a Bulova Lunar Pilot or one of the Bulova Precisionist range would be well worth considering. The Lunar Pilot has an amazing history. And the Precisionist range of watches have one of the most technically and visually interesting movements of any watch.

I love the Seiko Turtle reissue. I liked my first one so much I bought a second. Nice size, practical, reliable (so far - 18 months in), easy to read and easy to swap straps. Bought mine for around £300 each but they seem to have gone up a bit recently
Where did you get your turtles from? I'm struggling to find the pepsi dialled one anywhere outside of the US right now.Barchettaman said:
^ the Bulova is an excellent idea, but try one on first as they are big and wear big.
H. Samuel has deals on them online at the moment.
Any link to these deals? They still appear at the RRP to me. H. Samuel has deals on them online at the moment.
Great watch though. I tried one on in person and it looked great in the metal. Not too big on me, but I do have larger wrists.

I had one of those a couple of years back. Fantastic quality with a great movement but I never really took to it and sold it on. I recently picked up an £60 invicta pro diver and for some reason I prefer wearing that.RushDom said:

The code they sent me via email was FAKAWEM for 10% off - I'm assuming that will work for anyone but if not then just sign up for the newsletter.Great watch though. I tried one on in person and it looked great in the metal. Not too big on me, but I do have larger wrists.
I've also got an additional limited-time 15% (normally 7.5%) off H. Samuel and Ernest Jones at the moment which makes it even more tempting... must.. resist......
The theme colour for the wedding is Blue/Red so after one of the first suggestions I'd like to try on a Seiko Turtle 'Save the Ocean' Great White but thinking about it further, a Pepsi bezel could be the best of both worlds
H Samuel had 25% off yesterday including the Bulova Moon Watch but as it's Black I may save that one for another time - I also have very skinny wrists so don't want to look like I'm wearing a clock!
In the greater spirit of the thread - let's see what everyone has picked up for less than £500...

My under 500 but a little more than 200 watches
Tissot Chrono XL - picked it up in NYC. Lovely watch, nice quality, came on a bracelet but I put it on this blue leather which I think works better as its less formal. They're around £300, I think the strap was under £35 do leaves a bit of change.

My Seiko Turtle - cost me about £290 in the H Samuel sale and with a discount code. Not the colour you want but it's a great watch for the money, I'd like a blue one to go with it. Just make sure the chapter ring lines up as they're prone to being a bit wonky. Mines OK, not 100% straight but close enough not to worry me.

Finally my Bulova - wrong colour though. I don't have the biggest wrists but it wears nicely and being black it's nice and casual. No ideal for a wedding though so a little wide of the brief.

You might be able to get the quartz Longines Conquest just slightly over budget, that's what I'd aim for.

I have a few Seiko Presage and love them. I like other styles of watches too, but the Presage has clean lines and good design
