Hello watch aficionados,

Colleague at work looking to buy a birthday gift for son's 18th. Son has made noises re wanting a skeleton watch (had to google what these were!)

Seems they are quite expensive, budget is tight but probably up to £1000 if stretched.

Hamilton looks to be decent?

The Jazzmaster Viewmatic of their range seems to be the one to go for (which is at the upper end of the budget).

Decent watch and worth a punt?

Any suggestions for alternatives gratefully received.

TIA smile

If you’re thinking of a Jazzmaster Viewmatic Open Heart then I may have one for sale.

I looked at the full Skeleton ones and found them quite busy and a bit small to be honest. They looked far better in the pictures than in real life.

The Kahki Skeleton was the best of the bunch.

When I tried them on anyway, I actually bought the Open Heart.

The Rado Centrix was really nice though, but way over budget.

The Jazzmaster Viewmatic is a nice watch, if he wants something slightly larger for example (42mm vs. 40mm), there's the Railroad Skeleton - price is over budget but I'd be amazed if you couldn't get it <£1000 from one of the main watch / jewellery stores, as most have 10-15% off listed prices.

TK Maxx has a limited number of Oris skelton watches below half price: this Oris Atelier Skeleton normally retails at £1750, but it's on offer for just under £800. Blimey! You can't go wrong with Oris: top quality watches and one of the few Swiss brands that remains independent.

TK Maxx sells luxury watches like Oris and Rado. Who knew?

It would get mine other than it being an 18th birthday present, think it needs to be a tad more original. And original RMs are a touch outside the budget

I’d be looking at something used, maybe something from 18 years ago (iecsame age) but no idea what as they’re not my thing.

bazza.
