Eterna military heritage
Discussion
Morning, bought this from tk maxx yesterday. Overall I really like it, apart from maybe the outer bits of the case which are shiny. If it was all brushed steel I'd definitely keep it, but in 2 minds as it looks a bit blingy to my eyes....so...maybe a daft question but will the shiny bits dullen over time as long as I don't polish it?
Cheers
£500, although I had a £60 voucher hanging around....was also wondering about guarantee so done some research this am and looks like eterna might not be in the best of health so thinking it's basically got no guarantee... their Facebook page has a few people saying there is no customer service...and the watch itself could be old and in need of a service? Although in the first 24hrs it's only gained 3 secs...tricky one, not a massive amount to lose, although no one wants to see £500 down the drain...got until the 19th to return it.
When threads collide
That’s an incredible price. I think the RRP for these was about £1600 and Eterna quality is top notch.
Occasionally, TK Maxx online sells premium watch brands at silly prices (Rado, Oris, etc). Though the numbers are limited, so you have to move quickly.
I think the company hasn’t been in rude health for a while, but Eterna watches are beautifully made. The Heritage Military uses a standard ETA movement that any competent watchmaker can service.
Of course, Eterna is the manufacturer that formed ETA. Where would we be without ETA movements?

Just comparing to my other "save for best" watch...the Tissot was about £400 too I think, and I would say very comparable quality wise, so can't see how £1600 was ever realistic for the eterna...the lugs are more delicate on the Tissot and so the shininess is less noticeable...the strap on the eterna is excellent, nice and chunky and stiff, I think I'll be keeping it.
I’ve rarely found watch pricing logical! Each small increment in quality comes with a not-so-small price increase.
Much as I like Tissot, I reckon the Eterna’s even better made. The Visodate movement’s good but not as good as the ETA. I think the odd part in the Visodate movement may be plastic.
Also, I prefer the Eterna’s casework: it’s a subtle difference, but I found the Eterna’s case was better finished. I rarely like PVD, but in this case the PVD version is particularly handsome too.

The overall execution [of the Eterna] is very high. The finishing of the case — a mix of polished and brushed surfaces — is expertly done with clear demarcations between the different areas of finish. Additionally, the printing on the dial is sharp with evenly applied lume.
There’s a good thread on Watchuseek about the Eterna.I’m happy to be corrected, but thought the Tissot movement was a modified ETA. Modifications include reducing the beat rate, using 23 jewels instead of 25, and using some plastic parts. The result is a longer power reserve but reduced longevity. You’re less likely to be able to pass on the Tissot to future generations of Craigybabies
Whereas your descendants will be able to stare in awe at your Eterna as it ticks beautifully ... while they wonder why you never bought a smartwatch

I normally have a scout of their website every day or so as they sometimes have only one or two really nice Eternas in so you have to strike whilst the iron's hot (and in the morning as they make them live overnight)
There were a lot of Kontikis there recently but now down to just one.
I picked up one of these recently for less than £1000

This arrived today. I’m particularly happy with it, but note that it appears to be a pre-production sample. While I knew it wasn’t a sold item (the ‘not for sale’ on the rear in place of the serial gave that away), the hands and logo are a different colour to those seen in reviews. That said, at £414 delivered from eBay, it’s a decent price.
I think it’s a nice watch but it doesn’t feel like it’s worth a £1600+ asking price.
