Rolex Availability

Been shopping in downtown Nassau this morning, some great watch shops but when we got to Rolex AD they had nothing in Sports SS. I had a chat with the manager and he said we could sell popular models all day long but they just cannot get any stock. Interestingly he went on to say a lot of big AD in Dubia and Far East are sitting on stock they are storing starving the market even more, thus driving up prices.. There were OP in 34mm at £3500 good saving on the UK but no other sizes.
On the other side of the coin the Omega boutique had load of new stock but when comparing prices very little savings to be had, in fact some pieces were cheaper in the U.K.

I've had a Daytona on order for 2 years. I don't ever expect to receive it as the AD will sell to you if they have one and if you spend a shed load of money with them.
They are around every now and then they pop up as my jeweler saw one in an AD window at the top of a ski mountain in Geneva (?) when he visited the Rolex factory. Whether they would sell it to you depends as I've said on your spend with them.
I'm not prepared to buy rolex I don't want or diamonds from my AD just to persuade them to sell me a ss watch.
I'm certainly not spending £20-£25K on one but idiots are which is driving up prices.
Only Rolex can sort this. It absolutely amazes me that Rolex bother to advertise them, when you simply cannot buy any new.

I couldn't even get onto a waiting list, but I decided in the end I didn't want a Rolex that badly, especially when there are so many other watches out there and although most aren't anywhere as popular as a Rolex, they still have respect and also less common. There are so many Rolex's for sale on chrono24, many must get on the waiting lists purely to flip them for a profit.
I have a Black Bay 79220, A Speedmaster 57 Broad Arrow and a Grand Seiko SBGH269 and for the price would rather have those any day over 1 Rolex. No offence to Rolex fans.
My pub landlord has had a Rolex for years and says it has been awful at keeping accurate time, so that put me off too.

This topic has been discussed a great many times, but I suspect it suits Rolex's purposes just fine. It's similar to how Patek Philippe treat their similar hot-ticket, the Nautilus.
It's frustrating, I agree, but there are sound business reasons as to why neither should divert production to put all their eggs in one basket, even if it seems counter-intuitive to forgo the certain sales and risk the ire of some potential customers.
The hype is reinforcing, aiding the Rolex brand as whole. And Rolex don't need any help with shrewd marketing.
Of course, it's ironic that the unavailability (and high 'grey' prices that result) is the very thing that keeps used Rolex values high, and is the same aspect that draws many to purchase one in the first place. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

Totally agree. I like (and own) Rolex, but there's plenty of wonderful alternatives out there. Sometimes a Rolex is just what is wanted though, which is fine.I have a Black Bay 79220, A Speedmaster 57 Broad Arrow and a Grand Seiko SBGH269 and for the price would rather have those any day over 1 Rolex. Coincidentally, I also have a Black Bay, Speedmaster & Grand Seiko (but different models), and I wouldn't sell all of them to fund a single Rolex model either. No chance. Great watches, and each has individual key attributes a little bit more appealing than I could find in any current production Rolex model.

Current models are guaranteed to +/- 2 seconds daily, and even older models have excellent movements that should be easily capable of COSC Chronometer standards, provided they are maintained adequately, and by the hand of a skilled & patient watchmaker. I'd suggest there are issues with the pub landlord's watch which we don't know about - I suspect you'll find it hasn't been serviced since 1991 or something.UnclePat said:

He has had it serviced at least twice and last time fairly recently. I definitely wouldn't say anyone is making a mistake when they choose something, whatever works.

There is something wrong with it then. I definitely wouldn't say anyone is making a mistake when they choose something, whatever works.
Strangely, I don’t know what any landlord of a local pub here wears let alone how often he has it serviced. Or if it is real.

It is real and he wasn't always a pub landlord, not that it makes any difference what career anyone has. Strangely, I don’t know what any landlord of a local pub here wears let alone how often he has it serviced. Or if it is real.
