Speedmaster Pro and the special editions
Discussion
I'm looking at getting a speedmaster pro and I'm swaying towards the sapphire version just for it's added resilience to the odd knocks that it's bound to encounter. My current planet ocean is still immaculate after almost 10 years of use.
I went to have a look at one in and I was drawn to the Apollo 8 dark side of the moon edition that is available. Whilst I'm never likely to sell the watch it's good to know that the value isn't going to fall off massively as soon as I buy it. Is this likely to happen or is it just a novelty watch with an inflated price? It's £7'800 compared to the £4'700 for the standard watch.

Is it worth looking at some of the other Speedies or Dark Sides in a duty free boutique somewhere?
I paid significantly less for my Dark Side of the Moon back in 2016; have a ceramic chrono with the titanium clasp and the clear watch back for a price that started with a 6 is very satisfying considering that same watch is sat in boutiques now and starts with an 8 (yes I know there have been annual price rises, but the point stands).

Don't worry the PO won't be sold. I don't think I've ever sold a watch, I've still got my very first watch I owned in my watch box.
It's quite scary how much more expensive these watches have got now, I paid £1700 for my PO on a bracelet from goldsmiths when I bought it 10 years ago. It wasn't in the sale but I did a bit of haggling to get it for that.
Is there any way of finding out prices in duty free shops? I'm flying Birmingham to Copenhagen and Manchester to new York soon.

I did for Heathrow once - I think via the LHR website. I was surprised to see that most of the watches I looked at were actually a little more expensive at the airport.I think that is far too busy and you won't wear it when you actually want to be able to tell the time.
I have a 2005 Schumacher Legend in red (bought for the colour, not the Schumacher thing) and even that is a bit of a pain to read compared to my PO, to the extent that I rarely wear it.

It's basically a tribute to the first Speedmaster from 1957

I didn't know that existed.... looks lovely.https://www.omegawatches.com/en-gb/watches/speedma...
I looked at various versions when I was in the market but in the end I went for the 'original' one as it is just a lovely thing to look at! I actually really like the Hesalite crystal as it distorts the face slightly on angles etc and is so easy to polish up if you mark it.
It is a truly stunning watch. I also have a P.O. for day to day that still looks great despite me being clumsy!

I think the “base model” Moonwatch is hard to beat, you can get them new from about £3250, I think it’s so much better looking than anything else new at that price and it’s not tat and of course the story is quite cool too (unless you’re a fan if Capricorn One)
I want one on a well worn dark brown leather NATO strap
