Can any of you watch experts help me!

My Wife is 40 next Wednesday and I'm looking to buy her a Rolex Datejust but as it's her 40th, I'm trying to source one made in 1980!

Found an ideal looking one on Chrono24 but the guy didn't reply to any messages and was in Germany......

Any ideas where I could source one?

TIA! smile

Just did a quick search on Chrono24 and 166 of all references from 1980 came up, 35 of them in the EU.

We’re you after a specific reference number?

At least you haven't left it until the last minute. smile

Buy one and tell her it's from 1980 - she'll never know.

We will.

Ha!

Apologies for the noob-like lack of specifics, watches isn't my speciality!

Something like this would be ideal........it's not a 1980 watch but will likely be the one I'll go with if I can't locate one;

26mm dial........circa £5k +/-........no idea of reference numbers.................and yes, extremely late notice but I've been consumed with organising her suprise party!! sleep

Apologies!

Think I've answered them now............was hoping that you guys might know which watch dealers are reputable rather than my generic random googling..... smile

Milton’s, in Chester, Liverpool and the Wirral are very highly recommended. Experts in spotting fakes, prices non-negotiable.

Lots of what you might be interested in.

Personally I’d be going for the year you met rather than birth year. 1980 will be a higher chance of being well worn and will have the plexiglass.

Thanks, I had seen them, they do have lots of stock but nothing specifically 1980.........just thought there may be a specialist who may stock older stuff............

Appreciated, but that would be more of a wedding anniversary present I would have thought........I'll keep searching!

I ventured down the birth year avenue as a consideration, however picking something up ‘x’ years old in used condition didn’t really appeal. The Rolex dealer in Plymouth had one of these in the window yesterday.

Nice shop, great choice. Always seems to be significantly overpriced.

Thanks guys!!

I had found that place on googling over the weekend, they just don't have what I was looking for.

I think I'm going to scrap the "1980" requirement and broaden it to "80's".............makes my life a little easier considering I need to buy one tomorrow! lol smile

Sarnie, I have a 69173 for sale with box etc., if you’re interested drop me a pm.

Edit to add: it’s an ‘87-‘88 model so perhaps not what you’re after?
