Watch for the Wife

Mini Story Alert!
In the last couple of years I've been steadily collecting a few nice watches. Nothing earth shattering but not insignificant either (Yacht-Master 40mm, Explorer, Black Bay 58, Speedmaster Racing, Speedmaster Apollo 11 50th).
So following the birth of my 2nd boy last year, I promised the Mrs a nice watch on behalf of both our boys, which she definitely deserves.
She tired on a few different models but had her heart set on a DJ36, with a jubilee bracelet, fluted bezel, and blue dial.
No where had stock so whilst we stuck our order in at a local deal in Dubai, we began to consider alternatives.
There were a few different options, but the one she was taken by was the Tudor Black Bay 36 S&G (along with some jewelry on the side!). So we went to check out the Tudor, and whilst it wouldn't be everyone's choice it looked great and she was sold (almost).
Fast forward a few weeks and here I am in London on a business trip with a choice to make. Tudor (and jewelry) or the Rolex. The Rolex was still proving a challenge to source despite many requests to different dealers (WoS and M&W) and I even tried their airport branches too.
I'm about to give up, when a chance visit to canary wharf yielded a possibility. They had one for another client (in the ideal spec), who was supposed to pick it up any day. Several calls to the dealer was made, it was still there but still they were holding it for the buyer (fair play I suppose).
So yesterday, I'm now outside of central London (Teddington) on a business trip. They call me and ask when can I come and collect! Typically, I'm busy with work colleagues for a team gathering and evening meal. I ask if they can hold, but unfortunately given it's a relatively popular model they can't hold it for me!
Fast forward to today, and I'm desperately trying to finish work early so I can catch an uber, train and tube to CW in time before they close. Before I depart, I made a quick call to the shop and they still have it! So now I'm rushing to get there before 8pm to pick it up. Today was the last chance to get it before departing back home to DXB.
So, I'm pleased to say I made it and the watch was purchased.... here she is.... stunning

Total tax back will be just over £900 which is nice.
WoS were OK to deal with. They are throwing in a free watch winder with purchases of this value presently, but typically not if you buy a Rolex!

On second thoughts that's not quite fair on my wife. When I retired she offered to buy me a Rolex to celebrate. I couldn't decide between an Explorer II or a Sub C, so she bought me both! She certainly knows the way to my heart.

My wife was thrilled with the watch, and although it wasn't a great surprise in the sense she knew something was coming, she was still massively made up.
Being a blue face, I've suggested that it's something to remind her of doing a smashing job at safely delivering and looking our two boys.
We got it all sized up for her at a local AD and she's all set. She is paranoid about that first scuff, but hopefully the fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet will hide most of that.
As for the comment about Casio watches and showing wealth being "council". Thanks for the input! I happen to really like some older Casio watches and follow some of the threads with interest. There is something about retro watches that will never tire, and there are one or two old Casio pieces I had back in the day that I would love to own again.
My collection is modest compared with some but irrespective of that, it's not necessarily displaying wealth, nor intended like that. There could be many reasons why I have been in a situation to collect these few but I'm here to share my story just as others do.
