Seiko Presage Diver
Discussion
Handsome looking things, but I think I'd just buy the original and get a chronograph as well for $850!

US$850 retail and limited numbers. Nice looker for sure but better value to be had from the Swiss for similar money.
It is a conundrum for Seiko - as they try to push their Presage brand upmarket they are going to run into the better value Swiss brands. But can you get a new Swiss diver on a bracelet for close to £650?seefarr said:

Depends how you define Swiss - CW and Steinhart both use Swiss movements, are well respected and can be had for ~£650...To people like us, then it might look like they have competition, but to the bloke in the street, Seiko are a trusted brand (and who the hell are Steinhart anyway?).

This is £725 retail but always at least 10% off or morehttps://www.jurawatches.co.uk/collections/certina-...
Lovely watch, but had to sell mine because I just didn't wear it enough. This watch and a £650 seiko is no comparison. The swiss, especially the bracelet with SEL feels much more susbtantial and less rattly that a seiko at that price point.

On a similar note, been thinking about one of these, but wonder if I really need another diver.

Also, in the UK, Seiko's are way over priced compared to other places like HK. (excluding limited number models)
When I bought my Certina I was looking at a Seiko SPB077J1 both for similar money, I could get the Certina (both around £650 in HK)
The Seiko just did not impress me, less impressive movement, much worse bracelet. Only thing seiko wins is on the Lume.
The Seiko is also £995 retail in the UK with rare deviation from that price. At £1k, that opens up another level of watches to choose from.
Don't get me wrong, Seiko make some super value watches, I myself have a Seiko 5 (SNZF17) when I need to wear a metal watch that I can batter around. Even so, I think Seiko are selling on the Brand History, rather that its value or movement. Look at Orient and even Citizen, better value for money for sure. I would also say, citizen for the same price, is a better finish.
