Hi All,

I’ve been looking for a new daily/weekday watch but I’m not sure what direction to go in. I don’t know the watch world very well so I’m in need of a few ideas.

I’m not comfortable wearing something too expensive that will get used and abused everyday and have set myself a budget of circa £2500. I’m open to buying something used and I’d rather have something that you can’t easily buy off the shelf from your local high street/shopping centre. I’ve already sold two of my watches and I'm now looking for something a bit different,

I’m a big fan of the Tudor BB 58 but I think they’re quite popular, plus, I’m too much of a badge snob to pick a Tudor over a Rolex (not that I’m a fan of Rolex either).

My requirements are:
37-40mm diameter
Ideally black/blue/white dial
As slim as possible (Breguet Type XX was a bit tall for my liking)
Steel bracelet

Any thoughts?

Lots to talk about.
2.5k is still expensive
Expensive watches are built to be worn, even every day.
If you like a Tudor, buy a Tudor
Every watch is available in a shop somewhere smile

Buy a Seiko.

I reckon you should pull the trigger on a Casio F-91W.

Please don't "pull the trigger" on anything.

Buy a watch though.

If you like Tudor then what about the Tudor Style.

https://k8q7r7a2.stackpathcdn.com/wp-content/uploa...

You might find a Cartier Tank used.

The badge snob thing is a shame. I do sort of understand. I’m having a similar battle.

Which watches from your collection did you sell, and why did you sell them?

This is a great brief.
I really don't have much affinity for Tudor either, but was fascinated by the positive reaction across the industry when the 58 was released.
I saw one in a shop window at Christmas so thought I'd try it on. The form factor is spot on, and I can see why they're coveted. Bought it, stuck it on a nato strap, and it's a lovely evenings and weekend option. On the steel bracelet I'd be happy to wear it all the time, pretty much anywhere. It's a little jewel of a thing, and the build is decent for the money.

They're not perfect, and they're not at Omega finishing (as a comparision: the case is great if simple, the dial furniture is a few paces behind, particularly lume consistency), but at this price they cover a lot of bases really nicely.

Also: can't go wrong with a Seiko. As a do it all alternative I'd be in one of the 40mm GS Quartz options like an SBGV245 or its blue alternative.

As an alternative, Oris do some nice divers for sensible money. I'm a sucker for blue dials and this one's 40mm (they also do a 36mm):

Or the Aquis at 39mm

They did a vintage re-issue of their 60's style Diver 65 which I think is super cool too:

The Marloe Watch company Haskell is a great fit for your requirements, is a 100% British company and should be considered. I got a special edition Haskell Black for my birthday recently.

Have a look at https://www.marloewatchcompany.com/pages/haskell

None with a steel bracelet and all using a run of the Mill ETA with 40hr reserve

Granted not that dear, but none would float my boat.

Oris is a good shout.

I'm thinking with the OP wanting something that isn't run of the mill & "everyone has one"

A black ceramic RADO,
Otherwise SINN or Ball watches may be of interest??

I was in a similar position, wanted a work watch which was nice but not one of the ‘usual’ well known brands.

I ended up with one of these:

Under £2550? Tick
Bracelet? Tick
Black face? Tick
Can take abuse? Tick
Can't be bought from the average high street? Tick
Slim as possible? Well it's not bad for a 1000m waterproof watch.

The Nomos Club Campus is available on a bracelet. It's 39.5 mm in diameter, about 8.5 mm thick, has a white face, and starts at around £2400.

https://nomos-glashuette.com/en/club/club-campus-n...

There is a midnight blue face, but it's not available on the bracelet. (Nomos don't list the bracelet separately, but I'm sure that they could sell you one if you asked.)

They also do a sports series of watches, but these start at just over £3000, so a bit out of your price range.

https://nomos-glashuette.com/en/watches/new-releas...

If you want to go up a weight class, Ernest Jones have the Omega Railmaster listed as £3150, but it's out of stock.

https://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/d/6939805/o...

The blue dial version is still in stock for £4170, with a 10% voucher. I'd be tempted to see if they'd do a deal on it, particularly as the Coronavirus is likely to have killed the market.

I prefer wearing my 2017 Omega Seamaster 300m (blue) over Tudor GMT as a daily, its more comfy and lighter.
