Looking for 5513 Matte face Sub - cost

Evening all,
Have been pondering a sub for a while now and think I’ve landed on a birth year 5513 Matte face. Roughly what are these going for at present?
This if for a collection so I’m not in a rush but equally I’m not willing to pay well over the odds. I take it the dropping prices we have seen in more recent pieces due to market conditions, doesn’t affect vintage pieces so much?

Who knows is the best answer.
Prior to all the CV19 I would say £10-£15k for a decent one £15-£20k for a really minty one. Depending on the exact version.
Not sure I would want to spend that kind of money on one right now, I paid £5k for mine 5 years ago, that seems like a far mor reasonable price.

This was my Pre Comex dial 5513. Loved that watch. I swapped a GMT for it. Then sold it a while later for 8.5k. To find a similar model now your looking at 15 to 20k
Normal Matt dials are around 10k ish.
I've owned a couple of gloss dial 5513 models aswell. The gloss dials are lesser value. Still around 7 to 9 k.

I kind of agree with the sentiment. I can’t see good 5513s being £1k any time soon, I just kind of think the prices we have been seeing recently are driven by speculation as much as genuine collectors/ enthusiasts.Did you see the prices in the WoK sale recently? Some lovely Heuer and Omegas unsold.
They are great watches and IMHO massively nicer than the current offerings.

Have you taken a look at the vintage Rolex forums on Facebook ? Theres a world of help out there . If i recall its run by Eric Ku who knows pretty much everything you need to know about watches .
Also Mike Wood who is on here , i know of Mike through a friend up here near Fife. He is the guy for Comex and other submariners.
Theres plenty of advice out there . It is a minefield when it comes to vintage Rolex , especially Submariners .
Ive had a mere 7 years experience with Rolex , vintage and new. New is easy , well not easy because theres plenty of fakes .
Vintage tends to have another level of fakery , normally with mismatching parts , which may be genuine rolex parts but just not exactly all from the same year!
Anyway theres allway's someone with far more expertise than me around . Its worth joining a few groups and being very wary.

Guy from Fife came to my house to see my Seadweller 666 when I thought about selling a couple of years ago. Your looking at between 12 and 20 thousand now for a nice one.The chap selling it listed it and then it disappeared .As I had been looking for a birth year 5513 I was really keen . Done loads of research to make sure the dial was correct , crown etc etc .

Turns out the seller worked for a Rolex dealer , from where the watch was collected .
Watch is almost completely original including the crown , but not the riveted strap ( which looked good but wore badly) . It has original papers and also 4 or 5 service receipts for the a same owner . I put the serial number into google and it came up with the watch sold at auction , to the dealer so I guess almost a one previous owner watch lol .
3 years ago I had it valued by Mike Woods , told him the story and he immediately recognised N.Body as a Rolex specialist , so all good .
A few months after buying the 5513 , I bought a black ceramic GMT 2 again off e bay . The seller met me in a Rolex dealer to check the watch , all good . It was about 2 months old but turned out not to be the Holy Grail he thought it would be . He'd bought it on finance through Goldsmiths and I'd checked with them if the finance was secured against the watch . The fookers said it was , which was complete bullshoot . As I was about to hand over the cash to the seller , I joked about the finance bit and suddenly he got cold feet and started to get concerned .It went from me being worried about buying , to him being worried about selling !!
He made phone calls to confirm the finance wasn't secured and we proceeded . Turned out he was a policeman and as such needed to be squeaky clean wrt finance etc ..
Anyway , both still working and probably dropping from (over) inflated values , so all good !!
