Keep the Daytona or get a Vacheron Constantin Overseas?
Discussion
I do love the 116500LN (white dial) but it is a bit small for me (most of my watches are large chronos or divers) and part of me is wondering if I just got it because of the "it can't be gotten for RRP so I must try to do so" childishness.
At the same time, I've long had my eye on this:
https://www.vacheron-constantin.com/en/watches/ove...
and I suppose I find myself in the fortunate position that the Daytona would probably cover most of that if I sold it. The downside of course is that the Vacheron is an immediate hugely depreciating watch but they do feel a bit special and I hardly see any of them in the wild while every other person seems to have a Rolex, PP, AP etc.
Thoughts on the Vacheron if anyone owns one? What would you guys do? Has anyone had any joy negotiating for VC's? I'm southeast based so would probably get it from the boutique in London or WOS although unsure if that makes much difference but I do wonder if a company like VC would treat its direct customers a bit better than if they went through someone else? Any and all thoughts appreciated.

The VC is a lovely watch - I also like the Overseas dual time, which I have been tempted by.
It's a step up from a Rolex, but, unlike a Rolex, it won't hold it's value. This wouldn't bother me two hoots as I don't buy watches as an investment, but it's something to consider.
Personally I would have the VC. Everyone's got a Rolex, nice to have something different.

Love that VC. Mind you I also love the white D500. Never owned one because it’s well over the limit of what I’d spend on a single piece but having handled an Overseas, the finishing blows the Rolex out of the water.
I am pretty sure you should easily be able to get a substantial discount on it. VC are a pretty low demand brand in this country (less so in the Far East) and the depreciation is in itself an indicator that they can be had factory fresh for substantially under retail.

Lovely watch which I tried on when looking for a similar piece.
In the end went for the AP Royal Oak Chronograph Ref# 26331ST.OO.1220ST.01 which will not only hold better value but the overall quality was better in my opinion.
The AP bracelet was also a huge decision as I don’t think there is anything better. Can also put it on a rubber strap.

It's a lovely watch, definitely a level or two up on a Rolex... but tricky to make the swap as the Rolex is a hot watch.
Depends what you want really.
Yeah, I used to buy watches that I loved without worrying about depreciation but I sort of fell into the craze thing particularly given how crazy the overs are on the Daytona. Trying to reset my mental state a bit to not worrying about the value and just going with what I want I guess.Depends what you want really.
The Panda version of this is my grail watch for a number of reasons:
1) I see any number of PPs, APs and of course Rolexes on a daily basis, often worn by people I'd rather have nothing in common with. I very rarely see a VC, which gives it a great appeal to me. As others have said, this is not a big brand in the UK but is far more popular elsewhere.
2) All of the above stick out a mile to anyone half interested in watches, not necessarily a good thing.
3) The VC is more robust than the PP or AP equivalents. You could happily wear it on a beach and not worry about damage. The AP (unless a ROO) is only water resistant to 50m, which barely covers swimming. The VC is 150m and the bracelet on the generation you're looking at beats the AP one hands down.
4) Versatility of the strap system is amazing, with endless options.
5) It's big three.
Personally, I thought the blue was too bright for my tastes but it's still a lovely watch. You get the odd one on Chrono24 with a full set for under £20k, which is a substantial discount to the £27k RRP. I think they might become more popular over time, given their big three status and being reasonable value next to PP and AP, for a better product.
I have held off buying one because I am not entirely certain how comfortable I'd feel commuting in and out of central London everyday, plus walking around with something that valuable on my wrist. In some ways, I'd rather have a Blancpain FF to go with my existing JLC and Breguet, and then have one or two other interesting, lower volume watches.

I've been back and forth on the simple date version for about 3 years!
The quality of workmanship is outstanding and they feel great on the wrist. I was also very tempted by the rose gold version. Ultimately the element of the design I've never managed to get on with is the 'maltese' bezel.

I wear my white dial SS Daytona maybe once a year - at most. Bought new in 2006 for RRP. Like you I feel it’s too small now, maybe that’s why it rarely comes out now.
Can’t bring myself to sell it though as know would regret it, is still a lovely looking piece. I would hang on to it if I were you.

Thanks for the feedback all. Having had a think about it, will be keeping the Daytona. Will likely still get the Vacheron but I've been skirting my insurers limit for watches and not having a safe so will likely need to get something installed before buying anymore watches.
Good suggestion to try on the VC, I've not done that yet but will definitely go and give it a try.
Lol at the person thinking I'm worried about what people think and losing money. It's a forum, the point of it is to canvas opinion and discuss! Most of my watches are depreciating ones which I bought because I love, no problem with those, just trying to talk myself out of the mindset of "must have the ones that are supposedly difficult to obtain" and trying for a Nautilus next when I'm probably not that much of a Nautilus fan from an aesthetics standpoint.
The unsolicited cheeky bid from a forum member was much appreciated and helped to focus my mind so thanks for that! Will definitely be at the top of the list if I ever decide to offload it.
