So, bit of a bummer today.

I think I've bought about 7 seiko's so far, most of them from Creationwatches (paying duties on import and everything) as they have a big selection.

Today my latest arrived, an SRPA83 (dubbed Monster Tuna).
It's a lovely thing, unpacked it completely (removed all the stickers), started setting it and the day/date setting is unresponsive.

So this watch, brand new, seems to work completely, just that the day/date doesn't turn when trying to set it. It does turn when going past 12 when setting the time.
It also feels like the time setting has a bit of a "rattle" to it, definetly not completely smooth.

I reached out to Creation (never had to deal with their customer service before) and Seiko Europe, but really don't know what to expect. Not planning on sending it back to Creation so don't know what they'll say. Anyone at PH with more wisdom on this?

Packaging was all pristine, in 3 separate layers of boxes.

If you get no joy from seiko

Worst case scenario obtain a nh46 movement and get it swapped in locally.

Had similar with a SKX011J from creation.

They refused to deal with it via return or exchange, and suggested I send it to seiko Uk for a warranty repair.

I have not done this yet, but from a bit of watch forum searching it seems others have done similar with success.

I had something similar with a skx007 a few years ago. From the start it would lose a few minutes a day and randomly stop after a few hours regardless of how it had been worn. Creation weren't very helpful and insisted that I had to pay for postage both ways and they would only refund the cost of the watch. At the time they were <£100ish so I wasn't overly bothered about taking it to Seiko and I ended up sticking it in the back of the cupboard. I might dig it out someday and drop a new movement into it as suggested.

It did put me off using Creation watches again though.

This is what paypal is for.
I had an 009 from creation, that I felt had been returned previously. As the OP creations first response was for me to send it for service. I reiterated the complaint and they offered me a refund on return of the watch. We eventually agreed a partial refund of £40

I know the OP is in a different situation but the point is get past the initial standard response and you’ll probably get a refund.

Can I ask why you say
"Not planning on sending it back to Creation so don't know what they'll say"

Creation Watch web site

If you receive a watch which is damaged in transit or not working on arrival, it is still eligible for return. Please contact us immediately at contact@creationwatches.com if you received a defective item.

Once you return the watch, you can opt for either a refund of the purchase price or an exchange with another watch with the price difference topped up or refunded. We will issue a refund within 24 hours of receipt of the return package.

The main reason is I paid for what amounts to about 100 eur in vat and import duties, which I'm probably not going to get refunded if I have to send it back.

You can reclaim the duty and vat if you return the watch.

If you keep it and need it fixed I can thoroughly recommend Rigga on here, great service, very knowledgable and excellent value.

Would do immediately, but I'm on the continent.

There's a watch dealer in the neighborhood that I've bought some watches from, probably going to try my luck there if nothing else works.
Seiko EU was friendly but unhelpful. Basically "creation should solve this, if you go through us it's going to cost you"

That doesn't sound right. Don't Seiko's have an international warranty, you shouldn't have to pay to fix something that is new and broken.

Their schtick is that Creation is not a "certified Seiko dealer".

Ahh ok. Pretty poor customer service though if you can prove to them it's new.

They are not an authorized dealer.

I would buy online from other Seiko dealers in Singapore or Japan. Not creation.

Other dealers have a physical shop here. Creation do not

If you rightfully pay the taxes, they are hardly any cheaper than eg Amazon.
Then no hassle if it breaks.
I wouldn’t use Creation again.

Amazon is a hassle here in Belgium.
Plus I despise their website.

I only buy from Creation if it's watches I'm going to have to import anyway.

+1

I pretty much use PayPal to pay for everything I buy on the internet for this exact reason.

Bought a smartwatch from a Swiss company a few months ago, arrived from Switzerland and the USB charger was faulty. I immediately sent in a complaint to the company and also raised a complaint with Paypal.

Waited 7 days, sent another complaint to the company via their website. Still heard nothing.

Eventually 29 days passed and I got a very late response from the company saying they would send me a new charger if I would drop the PayPal dispute with them. I replied saying "Once I have received the charger I will drop the dispute".

Another 2 days passed and I just got an email from PayPal saying they had 'ruled in my favour' as the seller hadn't performed satisfactorily, and refunded me in full.

This is why you use PayPal. If a company messes you about or doesn't solve the issue for you promptly enough, Paypal will jump in and refund you. The seller won't have a choice in the matter.
