Reading the news story yes it seems to be really quite rare and quite sought after.

A variant that sold at Bonhams in 2010, they said was one of two known examples. How this one differs from it, I don’t know.

From memory there were a couple of hundred originally produced so this many years later a handful left realistically.

It’s a big deal for Submariner enthusiasts!

Personally even if I had that sort of money to spend on a watch I wouldn’t but yeah, highly sought after!

Yes, very rare, largely because the 3/6/9 dials were swapped out later at servicing by Rolex for the more familiar dotted dials.

Nice watch.

For me I prefer the 3 6 9 dial, or even better 3 6 9 12.

Having read the article (properly) it really is a rare find. Box, papers, everything; it’s going to go for absolutely funny money.

Having read the article, I'm also of the opinion that yes, it's quite rare.

This reminded me of a very similar story
https://deployant.com/pensioner-discovers-his-69-e...
It sold for around £170k

They are rare, but well known...note Steinhart do a homage/ replica

Yep, nice thing that Steinhart. Unusual domed crystal.

There’s also the 1953 Invicta for that vintage diver look on a budget:

Just to close off this thread, the watch sold at auction for £210k, it was bought by a Hong Kong based collector...
