So I really like this watch. Always have done. And I know that’s always the prerequisite before you even think about a purchase. Now it’s a bit of crystal ball gazing I’m looking for and general opinion. Am I mad to pay the current prices for it, should I wait and the market might soften. Or it might not.
Do people think the money going into them will be retained or is there likely to be a bit of a drop in the prices once the initial “panic” is over. Genuinely curious about the crazy Rolex market!! And yes, I don’t like the grey market!!

I fully appreciate that- was just after peoples thoughts and speculation- not going to hold anyone to a complete guess. Hindsight is a wonderful thing I guess.

The good thing witha Rolex is that unlike most investments, it has a fundamental value. Since they really do last a lifetime (and more), even if it’s worthless second-hand in 50 years, you’ll have had 50 years use of it, making it pretty good value overall regardless.

I’ve had my Sub for 30 years and still wear it nearly every day. Certainly would feel I’ve had my money’s worth even if it had no value (and actually it’s appreciated).

So if you want one, get one. Doubt you’ll ever regret it.

Exactly my thinking. I’m not too fussed if it loses , I was just curious and wondered if there had been any analogues to the Hulk in recent times. I’ll never sell ( unless desperation stakes!) - but a nice little pass-on for the kids. Who will probably sell to buy Apple watches ...

I bought one for the wife, green is her favourite colour. It's green, I'll re-phrase that, it's fking GREEN, really green.

I'm sure it's out there but we're yet to find the question to which the answer is a bright fking green Rolex.

The old Kermit got/gets much more wear.

Brilliant response! Will / does it ever get used?

+1 on this...as I’ve commented on another thread...Rolex at this level is simply wearing the money...yes you may pay a little premium now ...but the appreciation will neutralise that...I bought a Rolex 1996 16610 in 2000....for £2200...

Cheers for the response- fully see where you are coming from- one of my currents is a Coke GMT from 1995 odd- think it was less than £2k. But like some of the others it’s more about the sentimental value- been thru thick and thin with that GMT!!!

To wait or not to wait!

I've been offered around six Hulk's since it was discontinued and have so far bought three.

I fully understand owners exploring a significant gain from their watches but let's just say some expectations were a tad optimistic.

All three watches have since sold and there is still significant demand for the Hulk. They spanned 2017 to an unworn 2019 example and between £15000-16500.

To successfully buy them we had to bid strongly and priced them fairly compared to others where some were £20K plus.

My gut feel is that they will soften a bit but then settle. The Kermit is another good example of the love of a green themed watch and prices for these are strong too.

My view is to try and find a great example from a respected dealer and with original box and papers. I would not worry too much about the age if its in good condition. A newer watch will benefit from some remaining manufacturer warranty but if you're going to keep it a long time paying thousands more for a newer watch will be of less benefit.

It's a great watch though!

I like it and regret not picking it up when I saw one in the case a little while back. Was on the phone when I walked by the case and didn’t give it a second thought until a couple of days later by which point it has sold.

Having said that, I wouldn’t/won’t pay the current grey-market prices for one.

Apparently, they increased in asking price by about $10k here when they were discontinued and personally I don’t see the value in them. Obviously your mileage may vary!

The problem for most owners is what to do with the money instead. Whilst Rishi hands out his free moolah the price of these is only going one way.

His and Hers.

The dial is a beautiful thing, it truly is stunning but it's just too brash for me, I also absolutely love the "bluesy" bi-metal sub with the blue dial but it's the same thing-it's just way too flash for my tastes. That's ok, tastes vary and rightly so.

I'm not against green but a more subtle display is preferable to me, plus I much prefer the classic case over the Maxi of the Hulk.

And if you want something big, brash and with a stunning dial, my personal favourite...

Yeah I probably prefer blue to green but the maxi case of the last submariner just looks so wrong to my eyes I can't really forgive it and that's before you take into consideration it's colour. The Hulk really isn't for shrinking violets.

I really like that James Cameron dial - looks stunning...and even better in real life. Always felt the DSD was too bulky on my wrists - I don’t have the biggest wrists.

I got mine at £7450 a few weeks ago - that already seems like an awful lot of money for the watch......

Don’t get me wrong, I love it but I could have a blue wave dial Omega seamaster and a Tudor black bay red for that money - both stunning watches.

I wouldn’t dream of paying the £19000 that mine has been valued at and yes, I would anticipate a drop in price to £12000 for an early one to £15000 for a 2020, model over the coming year. So don’t pay the premium for a later model would be my advice!

It’s green watch, which isn’t for everyone but I find in most situations it doesn’t look garish!

Then again.....
