I've just inherited my grandfather's 1968 Seamaster, and it seems in good condition but I doubt it's ever been serviced.

This is my first mechanical watch, and I'd like it serviced by someone who really knows what they're doing - due to sentimentality, price is irrelevant as the watch is irreplaceable.

I'm based near Aberdeen, so not that many options close by. Is it worth sending to Omega themselves (assuming they do such a thing), or is it a simple enough watch for someone decent locally to service?

The watch bloke usually comes recommended.

For example (don’t know your specific calibre, there are others on his site) ... https://thewatchbloke.co.uk/2015/08/03/omega-seama...

Sent mine (not as old) to Joe at Anglesey Watches.
I’m based down the road to you (A9), but had no concerns sending to him to check out and service.

Looking forward to getting it back soon.

For the best Id approach STS, making it clear that the watch has sentimental value and they you do not want service parts fitting. For the best value servicing Id speak to Joe Horner.

I’m late to this thread but your title drew me in as I inherited my Dads 1968 Omega Constellation and like yours, it’s irreplaceable to me.

I’ve had it serviced 3 times since directly through Omega, last time was about a year ago. Price has been steadily increasing, first time was £200 last time £450. Time taken has always been about 3 months.

It’s financial suicide to use Omega lol but I’m not interested in resale or economics on this one. The watch has come back immaculate each time, so if you are really set on best and keeping genuine, then use Omega.

I have my Dad's 1969 black face Constellation too, also inherited! I just get servicing done by an independent.

I sent my Omega Speedmaster Reduced for a repair and service, one of the pushers came off, and the chap failed to handle the repair. Eventually he sent it to Omega (at his expense) and it came back looking perfect. I think I'll use Omega in future.
