So its a German company based in Berlin from what I can see

They also have an address in the UK from which they transact business.

Their prices are displayed as being inclusive of vat and are shown in gbp.

I have emailed them (and not yet had a response) but if I were to buy something off their website today, what are the chances I am going to get lumbered with an expensive import tax bill when it arrives next week? Its kinda annoying they don't make this clear on their website...

Covered by the post-Brexit EU trading arrangement, surely? And maybe you're buying it from their UK outfit?

If you try and buy a watch then you get a message along the lines of 'Sorry we don't currently ship to your country'.

I spoke to them last week about this and they said they'd implemented this after UK buyers had bought from them post-Brext and had complained when they'd been hit by 20% VAT on import.

I believe it's still possible to buy from them, but you'll need to speak to them directly and agree to the purchase on the understanding that you will be liable for costs on import.

Well I managed to get an answer from them today.

Despite their terms and conditions saying all prices include vat , despite their prices being displayed in gbp, and despite nothing material being said on their website, they apparently will add vat to their displayed prices.

So ill be giving my proposed purchase a swerve until they open a UK based store and sell from there.

The minefield of the Brexit deal!

I think they are just misinformed, or lazy, or profiteering. They should deduct the 19% VAT (Germany) and then add the 20% UK VAT. At the moment they are paying double VAT instead of treating it like a tax free export and (probably) pocketing the 19% VAT. Also known as 'pocket VAT'

There is so much misinformation (and lack of information) about deal that it is no wonder trade has dropped between EU and UK.
