Morning.
Getting married in August. Hopefully third time lucky - we've had to cancel twice already since Easter 2020. Looking for something traditional to celebrate. Thinking about a Reverso.

Will probably buy new not pre owned.

However, I'd like to hear owners experience and see your pics.

Happy to hear any other suggestions for a wedding watch. Feel free to tell me what you went with. Thanks.

Does a wedding watch need to be different to a normal watch? Just choose something that you like.

To clarify:

Getting married.
Good reason to get a nice momento.
Would like to see Reverso pics and hear owners experience.
Happy to hear other wedding watch stories.

By wedding watch I mean a watch you bought to wear on, celebrate and remember your wedding day.

Obviously, this is also just a watch.

I was treated to a Reverso wedding watch - love the detailing. I’ve been very happy with it, the manual winding becomes part of your morning routine smile

Now we're talking! Thanks for the pic. What model, and is it single or double sided?

I'm leaning towards the blue tributo small seconds.

I don't have any pics as I'm not an owner but the Reverso seems to be popular for weddings!

My mate also got one as his wedding gift.

Congrats in advance and hope it's 3rd time lucky.

I sold this a little while ago - the strap was beautifully made, gorgeous in fact. But the world turned from gold bracelets, as I did, it was a bit flash. It was also a watch that needed more expensive and lengthy servicing than any other watch I've owned - every 4 years or so (from memory) it was an £800 10 week job.

Absolutely stunning! One of the few models with a date function I think. I’d love to add a Reverso and a Master Control to my collection. Sadly my local AD has just parted ways with JLC after 25 years.

Thanks, it’s a Grande Calendar. Went to a JLC boutique and came out deciding I needed a complication biggrin The reverse has glass and movement view - great watch and gets lots of compliments, something different to the Rolex sports everyone has

Rich I am also getting married in August (overseas though so looking like a postponement) so when you get your Reverso I'll have to have your OP off you for my wedding watch! wink

Thanks for all the responses.

I had heard that servicing is both required and a bit on the pricey side, which has now been mentioned within the first few replies. A colleague has a master control chrono that needs a lot of attention.

I do like the thought of gold, but probably on a strap not a bracelet.

I floated the tribute in blue past the other half and she doesn't like it, which was quite a strong opinion on a watch for her. She said something along the lines of "I never see you wear the colourful one that I really like, why don't you wear that". The wedding may be a good excuse to finally size up and use my Breitling.

I still want a Reverso though!

Congratulations!
We're doing an MVP wedding. Since planning it last year we've added one guest (our daughter who'll be a year old!) but other than that we're only inviting parents.

I love the OP, such a shame they stopped making them.

My current three:

Grande Taille

Classique

Grande Taille white gold

I do have photos buried somewhere of other ones I have owned but since sold on, including a red one, a blue enamal one, and a tribute ultra thin...but those are the only ones I have to hand.

No horror stories re: servicing here - rather than the recommended thing, I tend to wait until things go wrong before doing it, which hasn't happened on any of mine yet - just the usual thing with them being micro-scratch magnets, which an annual once over with a cape cod cloth takes care of. I also tend to ditch the JLC straps in favour of a contrast stitch calfskin from my preferred brand - a fair bit more casual, and also significantly cheaper to replace when worn out than the JLC ostrich ones.

There are so many models of reverso, current and prior, and some are very rare yet still affordable. Do your research and find the one that is perfect for you.
My one piece of advice would be make sure you get the correct size - they often wear very differently to how you think, and because of the case shape the thickness plays a huge part of how they sit on the wrist.

My reverso (quartz), had it for about 27 years now.
Never been a fan of the whole Rolex Breitling etc monstrosities (IMHO), this one suits me just fine.

Thanks for all the photos and advice.
I prefer batons to Arabic numerals, and I'm drawn to a single side vs the night/day other executions. The bigger versions will be a bit big for what I'm after I think. My wrists aren't small but they're round not flat.

Am aware of the history but this isn't going to be a daily - it'll see more use in the office than weekends.

Full disclosure: I'm a fan of the usual steel monstrosities mentioned above tongue out but then I'm an "and" rather than "or" kind of person.

They do seem to show wear quite easily, but I'm typically pretty gentle on my watches.

I'd llike to start with a new watch for the occasion.
All of this suggests that a tribute small seconds is a good one to try. There are a few burgundy ones about still, which appeals. The green looks nice in pictures but I don't know what I'd wear it with. The blue would work more of the time, but I'm drawn to the red.

Food for thought.
Keep the pics coming!

I also have a Grande Calendar as my dressier watch. I adore it, but it's not been out of the safe for a while as I've not had much cause to get dressed up for the last 18 months.

The machine work and finish are stunning.

After an unusual (for me) amount of time spent considering options I finally ordered a Reverso today. All things being well it'll be with me tomorrow - pictures when it lands.

Thanks for all the advice and photos smile
