Not a watch, I realise. Mods - please feel free to move or delete if required.

A friend asked the independent and well-thought-of jewellers who supplied her engagement ring 12 years ago to resize it. They had to send if off to the original manufacturer in London because their normal guy couldn't do it.

Somewhere along the way back it has gone missing.

They are mortified and very apologetic. They have assured her that they will replace it with one the same quality. The manufacturer still makes that design. They seem to be a trustworthy bunch but she is concerned that she has no way of knowing if they returned a slightly less good version.

Unfortunately, the only paperwork she can find is a hand written note with "D27" and "WG".

She assumes that "WG" is white gold, so what does the D27 refer to? Do you think it is 0.27 of a carat?

Also is there anyway she can check the quality of the new diamond, even if it is the right size? Apparently the original was a good quality one, though she can't remember how she knows that, so it might have been what they told her in the shop.

Thanks

Has she got an insurance valuation? That would usually list the quality and clarity of the diamonds and an independent specialist could confirm the new one to be the same.

Thanks for the reply.
Apparently she doesn't have a valuation.
Lesson learned!

Thanks for replies.

Situation now resolved, probably.

They have established it was stolen/lost by the delivery firm. (It had a GPS tracker!) Jewelers will bill then so have no incentive to down play quality of original.
