Watch Winders - Yes or No
Discussion
I had to get one as my wife complained that her Datejust was stopped every time she wanted to wear it. So this solved the problem nicely. Even if she doesn't wear the watch for days or a couple of weeks, it's still showing the correct time when she does pick it up, which means she actually wears it now.
It's a double one, and I keep my SuperOcean in the other winder as it's my most worn watch, and I want it ready to wear whenever I leave the house. Which sometimes isn't for days at a time right now!
Not fussed about all the other watches. If I want to wear one, I'll happily spend a few seconds setting the time and giving it a wind.
In short: They are great if you don't wear your watch everyday yet don't want to have to set it when you do wear it.

Personally I don’t like leaving watches outside the safe, so for me it’s a no. (Although they’re a great idea.)
You can just get a safe with watch winders built in. Can't imagine they'd be cheap however... https://www.brownsafe.com/man-safe/index.htmlVEX said:
I have read different thoughts on watchwinders and have a chance to be given one for Christmas /50th.
So what are peoples opinions?
Partially for a cool display and partially for actual usefulness.

I use them as I have a few watches and I like to keep them wound - I have this unproven notion that mechanisms prefer to be operating rather than being static. Both Patek and Rolex used to sell winders a few years ago, so I guess they thought so too. If you have an annual or perpetual calendar, they are pretty essential. So what are peoples opinions?

But, as mentioned above, they should be in a safe rather than on display. They're just too obvious and portable.
I did a look at watch winders for a convenience perspective, I like to swap around auto watches so thought would be good having one on a winder, wear the other.
Thing is these are cheap daily watches and good watch winders that you can set and that don't just rotate constantly are probably more than the cost of the watches I'd use it on haha.
Some argue that actually letting watches rest is no bad thing but in reality I suspect they don't make a massive difference.

How cool!
I was going to post and ask what I was supposed to do with all the rest of my watches, but then I saw this
, which will just about do it. For now that is.
"Perhaps Sir should consider ordering two?"
To answer the original question, "No". I can't be bothered, I have too many autos for it to be practical & I don't leave them out on display. We were recently burgled. If they'd been out, I'd have lost them. I collect vintage watches, they are not valuable, but they are not something you can walk into a highstreet store and replace.
Besides, I enjoy the process setting the date and time every time I swap to a different watch. Yeah, I know that's weird.
