New watch face misaligned- am I being too fussy?
Discussion
Dear all,
I've recently purchased a new Rado Captain Cook online from a well respected watch retailer. I was disappointed to notice that the watch face appears to be slightly misaligned and replied to their courtesy email asking if there were any problems with the order by saying:
Dear online retailer,
Thank you for your email.
Having had a delay with my delivery no doubt related to the Christmas/New Year holidays I was thrilled to receive my watch.
Unfortunately, on opening the box and looking at the watch I was quite disappointed to find that the dial appears to be slightly misaligned.
I've attached pictures showing that the dial appears skewed to the left/ 9 o'clock position. As a result the 6 o clock marker doesn't touch the 29 minute mark but overhangs the 31 minute mark and there is a large gap between the hour marker at 3 o clock and the chapter ring but the 9 o clock marker is practically touching the chapter ring. The same issue can be seen comparing the 4 o clock and 8 o clock markers.
I find this level of finishing quite disappointing on an otherwise lovely watch and isn't something I've had on any of the Seiko's or Omegas I own.
I have not yet worn the watch as it was sized too small to get over my hand and I wonder if you might offer to have this item returned and replaced with one that has been checked for such issues?

The retailer has replied by saying:
Hello,
I am sorry to hear this however I find it difficult to see on the images. Please return the item using Royal Mail Special delivery and email us a copy of the receipt. We can then inspect the item upon it's return.
Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.
If we can assist you with anything further please do not hesitate to get back in touch.
Kind Regards,
Before emailing the retailer I asked a friend if he could see anything unusual about the face from these pictures and he spotted it straight away, but following the retailer's response I'm left wondering if I'm being too picky and if I send the watch back am I leaving myself open to an argument about whether there's actually anything wrong with it etc.
I don't want to cancel my order but I really enjoy my watch collection and have never had a misalignment issue like this from Casios through to Omegas. I can assure you this isn't a case of parallax or the curvature of the crystal playing tricks, the markers are skewed slightly down and to the left and having noticed it, I can't unsee it!
Your thoughts on whether you'd return it or put up with what is a relatively minor, but annoying issue would be much appreciated!

This. It will always bug you.Cameras can play tricks with perception so they probably just want to check it out first hand.
I wouldn't say you are being fussy.
I had a similar issue last year with a watch bought online through a large retailer. The chronograph hands on the watch wouldn't reset to the 12pm position. They were only slightly out but when your spending large amounts of money these things should be perfect.
I was lucky that I could just return it to the store which made things easier and quicker.

I noticed it straight away before reading your post fully, it would frustrate me every time i glanced at it. I'd definitely get them to exchange it or a full refund.
I had a Seiko SKX009 bought for me a few years ago as a birthday present. Being an automatic watch I tried to wind it by the normal shake back and forth method and it would run for about 20 seconds and then stop. A local watch repair shop opened it and said the inner workings were catching on the inside of the case causing it to stop. They had to add an extra seal in the back to space it out so it ran properly but he kindly informed me "Whatever you do don't get it wet as it won't fully seal now."
A dive watch that you can't get wet. Fantastic.

I had a similar issue with a Tissot. Went back to both the retailer and manufacturer several times. Both couldn't see the obvious-to-me alignment issue. And once you'd seen it, you couldn't unsee it.
I eventually got a full refund, and will never buy a Tissot again (which is a shame as I like some of their watches).
Oh and the retailer weren't mega-helpful either (black, straw, goose, rasp)
