Hi, thinking of possibly buying a Panerai having admired them for some time. I’ve decided I want 44mm and probably from the Luminor Marina range and I’m open to new or pre owned to save a bit of cash. Any recommendations on what I should look for and model references. Having looked in all the usual places it seems a bit of a minefield.
Lots to choose from. For me, I wanted the ability to quick change the straps and this isn't a feature on all of them (not the base models, as you point out, though for me the 4300 entry level ones represent fantastic value for money).
They wear very well, and best on a nice rubber strap for me. I posted mine in the Wrist Check thread on a camo Horus. Its a 312 which I think is a nice version of them.
If you think you'll leave it on the one strap, I wouldn't be dismissive of the base entry ones. They are 99% of the more expensive ones for a great price.

All I can say is be very careful if you're buying second hand, there's a lot of fakes out there. My wife bought me one for Christmas with box and warranty cards.
She was assured it's genuine and if there were any issues she could take it back. It took me 5 mins after receiving it to check the serial and model to find to was fake. I even found somoene asking in a forum about the exact same watch (marks on the case, warranty card scuffs) if it was fake back in 2020 to be told it was.
The seller was shocked and said it had been in their safe for 3 years so couldn't understand how it appeared online in 2020. Got our money back no problem, but please do be very careful.

Pam1313 here too. I originally wanted a base pam for years, but then now when I finally decided to get one, glad with the 1313.

Thanks, Hamperman.
I really like that blue dial one mentioned, though would say that if you don’t have a few watches to rotate its often better to keep it to black, grey, or white faces so you can wear them with any colour shirt etc.
I have a blue faced sub, a green dial sub, and a few other colourful ones, and they all need that extra seconds thought when I pick a top off the pile.

That also looks great, where did you get it from?
Been to try some on today and decided I actually want 47mm, sapphire back, preferably an automatic and a black face. Also would like a second hand, or power reserve or something to break the face up a bit. Any suggestions for model numbers that do this?

It'll have to be NOS/grey/used though as they discontinued the 47mm I think
