Tempted to finally cave in to the Speedmaster temptation
Discussion
Afternoon all,
I've wanted a Speedmaster Pro for a few years, but for some unknown reason I never pulled the trigger. Maybe it was because I was torn between the FOIS and the Moonwatch. I think the Moonwatch dial always looked a little flat to me, compared to the FOIS and the vintage models.
Fast forward a few years and now the entry price for a Speedy is £1500-£2000 higher and I'm kicking myself. Also the latest model has addressed that issue with the dial by adding the step back in.
So, now that coupled with the Swatch hype has got me seriously reconsidering getting a Speedy Pro.
Which leads to the age-old question: Is it still possible to get a discount on a new Omega from an Authorised Dealer?
I have some days off work next week and will be in Guildford on Monday morning so I'm probably going to head into Mappin & Webb while the OH takes the kid in for shoe fitting, try on the Speedy. If it grabs me like I think it will, I won't hang around too long this time and will pull the trigger asap. But if there are potential discounts out there, it would be great to get some details.
Cheers,
Cano

I bought a Seamaster last April and got a 10% discount just by asking nicely at an AD and paying in full on the day, not taking 0% finance etc.
The RRP has gone up 10% on what it was since I bought mine but getting a similar discount should still be possible if its a model they have on display to buy there and then.

Would I be right to presume that taking finance would wipe out chances of a discount? The RRP has gone up 10% on what it was since I bought mine but getting a similar discount should still be possible if its a model they have on display to buy there and then.

To be honest I didn't ask but I said if I don't take finance and pay debit card can I get a discount. I may be wrong but when an AD is offering 0% finance the finance company must take a cut off the AD for financing it which will reduce their profit so less likely to discount was my thinking.
I'm going to try the new one on this Monday. The Dial was always what held me back from buying the old one, never looking as good in real life as the studio images or vintage pieces. The 3861dial looks like it may have fixed that, but is that worth the extra price? Probably not. I get that the new movement is a big change, but it's not a priority for me.
Let's see after I try it on.

I havent bought a new Omega for almost 2 years so things might have changed
My tips
Pick a AD in a shopping centre where there is another Omega AD in or locally
Make clear you intend to buy today if the price is agreeable
As said don't take finance, not noticed any difference in offers between credit or debit cards though
Be friendly
I try and start for about 18% (Do the maths in your head and suggest a number) and work from there. Know what 10/15/20% will actually be
Often a good negotiation point is to get them to chuck in a strap (I always buy on bracelet) Omega straps are expensive and the clasps are horrendous . I've had AD's remove a strap from a display model to chuck in
Personally I would think most dealers will offer 10% off, if they don't walk , someone will give you the deal you want

Bought mine a couple of days ago for my birthday. Keeps growing one me - it really is so versatile with straps - and I absolutely love it.
I got 10% off; I’d expect you could probably achieve more but I’m one of those suckers who accepts paying a little more than needed at the AD in order to get access to the Rolex models I want. Sad, I know.

Dom Hackett is normally mentioned as a recommendation for all things Omega.
I got mine from Dom. Dead easy transaction. Watch was supplied from a UK AD with all paperwork etc.catso said:

A few years back I was chatting to him about one and they were 3k but I dithered as I couldn't justify it. I can now but not what they cost now!

And this is exactly where my head is at. Kicking myself for not buying one around 2017 when I was seriously close. That's why realistically if I get one it will be with finance. Either way (new on finance, or preowned) it's going to be a keeper, a watch-for-life.At the time Laings in Cardiff offered me 15% off straight off the bat

Can't imagine buying an Omega is going to help your Rolex cause is it?I got 10% off; I’d expect you could probably achieve more but I’m one of those suckers who accepts paying a little more than needed at the AD in order to get access to the Rolex models I want. Sad, I know.

It’s just a watch, not worth going the finance route IMO. A pristine pre-owned one makes complete sense.

Three Omegas and two steel sports Rolex last year (if you can call an Air King a ‘sports’), so it’s doing something. I’m expecting an Explorer 2 fairly soon but then I’ll have hit my 3 in 12 month limit until the summer. Fortunately I actually really wanted the Omegas (and would have bought them anyway), unlike some of the buyers who are stuck with Mont Blanc pens and diamond earrings…..
