Cheap VHP Quartz Watches

I'd let to get a new quartz watch but would like it be very high precision (VHP) - typically +/-5 seconds per year.

Being a tightwad I'd like to spend as little as possible. What brands/models should I be looking at?

Yes indeed - I have a radio Casio already which is great.

Just fancy something that's acurate on it's own accord for a change.

One of the other threads mentioned a Longines Conquest VHP as a suggestion to anthor question, and I though I like that but don't have the funds.

So thought what can I get that's accurate but cheap?

Or gps, or any thing with Bluetooth that links to your phone.

Bulova Precisionist, COSC certified chronometers like the Certina, worth a look.

No mention of budget, but Certina Precidrive can be had from about £400.
OK, only 10 seconds per year. I bought one early March, and it was +3 seconds at the clock change.

That doesn't sound great, does it? I have just Googled the Certina Precidrive and they state that they achieve 'chronometer precision', but I thought that most quartz watches had been achieving better than that for 50yrs?

My 47yr old Omega Cal.1325 (more jewels than an Oysterquartz) MegaQuartz exceeds the daily chronometer standard over a whole month (5sec vs 6sec).

Got to be a Casio imo plenty of G shocks have radio controlled time , my choice would be the m5610 it’s £100 in Argos but can often be had as low as £60 on eBay

It’s specific quartz COSC rating…that your Omega would fail…by a long way…

It does say all this on the Certina website (not the bit about the Omega)

I know you said you wanted one that's "that's acurate on it's own accord" but some Casio take the network time from your mobile phone each morning via bluetooth. Anecdotally, I've heard that it is quite common for radio controlled watches to fail to get a connection.

Ps, the lesser jewelled oysterquartz does meet the quartz COSC rating

The GS 9f movements are -/+ 10 seconds a year or -/+ 5 seconds a year for the high accuracy version

Yes, that part was just banter. It is a quartz from their golden age though, with plenty of rubis and the appearance of a real calibre.

Bulova get my vote - anything with UHF or precisionist in the description are pretty accurate (mine is about +3s/year) with the added benefits of smooth sweep seconds hand and excellent quality for the money. The only thing I don’t like about my Sea King is the concertina rubber strap.

That is very nice! Slightly O/T but I can highly recommend Francis and Gaye. I had a run in with them some years ago, they admitted their mistake and made it right at their cost (which I suspect would have been substantial). Would have no hesitancy using them again.
