So I was thinking about embarking on a "new" watch collection and setting a budget of 5k and I thought "I wonder what PH'ers would go for with that budget?"

Having just started down the rabbit hole of watch collecting and getting a better idea of who uses their own movements, who buys in, who's independent, who's not and some of the history of some of the manufacturers I figured it would be interesting to see what people would come up with a 5k budget across 3 watches?

No hard and fast "rules" just it has to be new. So I'm guessing something similar to this:

Pilot \ Chrono \ Diver
Dress Watch
Beater \ Daily

Fortis Chronograph

Sinn 556i - The minute funds allow, I'm getting this.

and my daily beater

Casio G-Shock G-Squad

Smidge under budget £4,986.90

Over to you? What would you have in your 5k 3 watch collection?

A bit of a "blue" theme going on there. Must admit I'm a sucker for a nice blue dial/bezel.

I'd go used and buy these 3, although I'm biased I own 2 and sold one of the others many years ago, a decision I now regret.

Frederique Constant Slimline Moonphase - For dressy occasions (1200 for decent used)

[url]

Frederique Constant Highlife as daily in blue, below is grey but a nicer picture. (1300 for decent used)

Omega Speedmaster - (2500 for decent used, maybe a white broad arrow)

I way playing around earlier but it's surprisingly hard, particularly if your first pic is around 3k which is where I was starting from with the couple of runs at it I had.

I think out of my currently owned watches I could get by with these 3

Oris aquis £1700
Tudor black Bay 36 £2450
Tissot prx £550

Im not quite sure I've convinced myself of the above, I think mainly because I'd probably spend more on the sports/tool watch, but I guess the above is one way to skin this particular cat.

I agree it's not particularly easy budget for 3 watches. A good chunk of money, but only just into the nice automatics spread across 3

I'm just wondering where the £2500 Speedmasters are?

You could pick one up on Chrono24 for that price, albeit the older reduced model.

I know there are some folk a lot more comfortable with using the second hand market but in the aim of keeping it a level playing field "new" was mentioned just to keep it from a grey market fest.

Totally get you can get some real bargains but a newbie (myself) might just as easily find themselves the proud owner of a Franken watch / Replica with zero chance of getting their cash back.

AD / New just keeps it simple smile

I was thinking of going Sinn U50 myself but worried about being a Sinn fan boy!

As for people ignoring the thread title, I'm sure someone will be along shortly with a 5 watch, £10k, second hand collection for giggles.

Ahh at least I stuck to budget and the brief for new smile

Its an awkward amount really not really enough to have one luxury watch in there

Pilot watch

Dress watch

And spend what’s left over on a Seiko or G Shock for a beater…

I'm impressed that you put your most expensive pick down as the daily beater smile

I almost bought one of the U Boat Darkmoon's (in green also) yesterday and this isn't helping! (Bought an Out Of Order Casanova Anguria instead)

I'm not hugely knowledgable on watches, but my pick has been largely covered above:

1: Tudor
2: Longines
3: Seiko

1: Tudor
2: Oris
3: Swatch Sistem 51

Something like that anyway.. I'm also interested in new for the reasons you've listed, but could be tempted with used if I was confident in the seller.

You could hammer nails in with a tegimented Sinn and not mark it smile

True, I guess I was looking at it from a "what amount is a lot (to some - myself included) but isn't mental money". 5K seemed a decent compromise.

It also effectively removes the "go to" watches at new price.

Speedmaster, Seamaster, Navitimer etc.

Yup as listed earlier you can still pop a Tudor in there and the other good brands using either a modified ETA or Sellita movements for your high value watch.

Watches, like almost every consumer product are hugely subjective. So its interesting to hear other views and its nice to see stuff you wouldn't normally see. I'd never even heard of Sinn or Fortis until a month ago and I'm keen to add a Sinn to my watch inventory!

Cheers!
