Hi,

long time lurker on these forums and posting for the first time, I am due to get married in a couple of months and looking to purchase the wife to be a nice watch as a wedding gift.

Looking for something with a bit of gold or rose gold on and ideally a metal bracelet, price range up to 4k could go just over for the right watch. Any suggestions and we are in our 30s if that makes any difference.

Cheers

I like a Cartier on a lady: https://www.cartier.com/en-gb/tank-francaise-watch...

You'll likely negotiate 20% off the ticket price.

It will depend of course how old your wife is. If she is eighteen she may not like the look of something like the above.

I’d go for a pre owned Rolex Lady Datejust, covers off the something “old”

I would never buy an automatic for a lady.

I am currently looking at the Cartier Tank on leather strap (Mid 30's)

Its a thing of beauty...

Very classy. Understated and non nonsense.

I took Mrs Knee shopping for Rolex Datejust and came back with a Cartier Tank Solo on a bracelet which she loves (and saved me a couple of grand!) As said, you will be able to get a decent discount. If your watch store won't play ball then give Dom Hackett a call.

Very classy. Understated and non nonsense.

Why not?

I bought my other half a ladies datejust on a jubilee bracelet for her birthday a few years ago - she loves it, never takes it off.

Some women wear a watch sufficiently to keep an automatic movement wound. The majority don't in my experience. When they put on their best watch to go out they want it to be telling the right time, they don't want to have to set it.

Women generally aren't interested in the engine of a watch, they are more interested in the jewellery.

So, for the majority of women an automatic watch is inferior to a quartz.

How do you manage to get 20% off?

By knowing the right dealers and by asking!

Try Dominic Hackett, whose watch business bears his surname. But your friendly neighbourhood Cartier agent will likely be prepared to haggle.

Bought mine an Omega.

Similar to this (rose gold and steel) - https://www.omegawatches.com/en-gb/watch-omega-con...

She'd seen one a few years before we got married and noted she liked them. Has had it pushing 12yrs now smile

My instant thought was a Cartier.

Chanel j12s are quite popular with the ladies, especially if they have sporting pretensions.

I think the Cartier Tank Francaise is a good suggestion, but I'm a bit biased as I have a Cartier Panthere (suits my ultra skinny wrists/arms) but which might be more in your price range than the Tank.
