Should I get this Pulsar fixed

This was my late wife's watch. I like it and would wear it. But it doesn't work. I had a new battery fitted today. The second hand moves forward a beat then forward, then back. Since 12:00 it's lost six hours.

What should I expect a repair to cost and where is the best place in London for this?

Absolutely worth fixing, it’s great.

The battery could be faulty, I’ve had this before with a ‘new’ battery. I’d 100% try a different battery first.

Sounds like a bad battery, had a few watches do this when the battery is low.

This watch uses a Seiko v554 movement (should be stamped on the case back).

It appears the Hattori vx44 is a replacement which is £4.25 plus vat from CousinsUK.

The chap who put the battery in says that the day of the week bit isn't working.

The second hand going backwards and forwards is usually the signal that the battery is flat.

As an alternative, you could buy another watch from eBay for not much, and put the movement from that one into this one.

It may work out cheaper than a repair, although it might well be what a repairer would do anyway.

Pull the crown out and wind the time forwards - you'll soon see whether that's true or not. Every second time the hour hand passes 12, it should click forwards on both day and date.

If it doesn't, then a new mechanism is definitely the way forwards.

Wind the time forwards manually and the day date should change around midnight within a few hours.
