Why are new watches getting to be a silly size, I’m not a Goliath & I don’t want a watch that looks like I’ve got a side plate on my wrist!
I was looking to purchase a new TagHeuer F1 but unless you’re a bodybuilder they are starting to look a bit daft.
I just bought a 2nd hand mint Tag F1 dated 2008 & it looks far better 😁

Large watches became the fashion in the early 2000s with the explosion of Panerai. If anything the current trend is towards smaller watches.

Mines a 43mm and that’s the biggest I’d go.

Must be an optical illusion thing, my Seiko 5 is 36mm and the PAM is 44mm. The Seiko looks biggerconfusedbiggrin

biglaugh Yes, fair enough! But looking at the width of the watches on the wrist (okay, the Seiko photo was taken closer) there's not a massive difference. Besides, I like variation, I don't have a problem wearing watches sub-40mm or bigger

I think 40mm is the sweet spot.

Had to check this hadn't been bumped from 10 years ago wink

General trend is that watches are getting smaller now as there's a big uptake in 'vintage' sizes.

I wear a 42 Pelagos and it seems ok, if anything I think thickness has more impact on how a watch wears BYMMV

I think I saw on some watch blog that someone mentiond that the latest Tudors are smaller than the previous ones and questioned whether this might this be an indicator that Rolex will start produce smaller as well.

All of which is good news because not everyone wants to wear a watch the size of an alarm clock! My Speedmaster Reduced is 39mm and that's just right for me.

For me about 42mm is my sweet spot.

I go as small as 40mm and up to about 46mm but some of my G-shocks are probably even more bulky.

I struggle to understand this constant debate about watch size and whether it’s too big or too small

It’s a bit like debating shoe sizes. At the end of the day you buy what fits you don’t you?

Definitely trending smaller nowadays. As a skinny wristed triathlete this is very welcome in terms of choice- I can’t wear anything bigger than 38 comfortably. my daily beater is a Seiko prospex solar mini Tuna thing- might be a 36- absolutely perfect size for me.

Indeed and often the whinging post contains the word "today!" like it's suddenly issue for them but hasn't been for years the OP uses "now!" instead, when the reality is most "mens" sports/tool watches have been 38-42mm forever and that's the same today.
