For me,

Cyclops, hateful things, looking at you Rolex.

Date at 3 o'clock, especially instead of the number 3, looking at you Longines.

Misaligned dials, hands and markers, just not being sharp enough at their price point, Seiko hang your head in shame.

Lugs too wide for the case size just so you can use your standard 20mm bracelet on a smaller watch. Looking at you Christopher Ward.

No AR coating, it's pennies but apparently Seiko can offer a £480 professional specification watch with no AR so you can't see the slender second hand a lot of the time

Non sapphire crystal on a watch that costs over £150. Stop putting soft st on the watch when the vast majority of manufacturers put sapphire in at that price point.

Long lugs on a smaller case diameter, we want a small diameter as we have small wrists, that is ruined by having long lugs in comparison to the case. Sorry to say but go onto the Longines website and look at the pictures of their small watches and look at the lug length. Once seen it can not be unseen.

Llentil, I concur with almost everything you say.

However, my personal wish for 2025 is never to see the expression 'price point' in print again. It is an awful phrase, the use of which should be restricted to rayon suited salesmen in Audi dealerships whose advances should be ignored or dismissed with a contemptuous smile.

'Price' is a perfectly adequate term for those of us with no need of PowerPoint cost projections, or questionable financing 'solutions'.

Happy New Year to all!

I like the date to be at 3 o’clock. Can’t stand it at 6 o’clock though.

Anything with a "simple" date that you have to adjust every other month.

No date at all = fine.
Annual calendar = great.
Perpetual calendar = take my money.

But for some reason I hate those date things that you have to adjust 6 times a year. It feels like a pretend feature.

I'm strange I know...

Don't really have any definitive dislikes apart from Roman numerals.

Either a watch does it for me or it doesn't. smile

It’s a cyclops for me. I just don’t like them… even though my failing eyesight is rendering the dates on most of my watches completely useless

yes agreed, can't be doing with them and one reason I don't own a Rolex.

That said the date on my Wife's Rolex would be completely unreadable without it, so I'm torn on that. confused

But, for the OP - the date at 3 O'clock? surely that's where the date should be? at least I've never owned a watch with the date anywhere else.

All of the things listed by the OP.

Also;

- partially numbered dials (e.g. 12, 6, 9 as per many Longines and others). Either put all numbers on or none.
- gold coloured steel (looks terrible and it'll rub off eventually and look a different kind of terrible)
- Titanium watches that have the word"Titanium" on the dial (Seiko and Citizen springs to mind as main culprits)
- Butterfly clasps, I find them very fiddly.

This rules out a lot of watches for me!

Bracelets but more specifically poor endlink fit & integration with the lugs. I like the endlink to look almost like a continuation of the case with a super tight engineered fit. I’ve poured over Grand Seiko dive watches several times & each time it was these characteristics that had me retreating from the store, in the end I saved a chunk & bought a Pelagos.
