Swatch x AP - new collab incoming?
Discussion
Rumours are that Swatch will announce a Royal Oak collab on 16th May.
I know that these things are controversial. I got slightly obsessed with the Moonswatch so have six of them. This swayed me into buying a real Speedy Pro. Not sure I'll be able to stretch to a real Royal Oak though
Great marketing!

Certainly looks like the Royal Oak font, but it would be a bit weird!
The Swatch x Omega made some sense, as Swatch owns Omega - but I don't get the connection here.
If it is an AP x Swatch collab, the demand is going to be off the charts.
I think there'll be huge queues for this one.The Swatch x Omega made some sense, as Swatch owns Omega - but I don't get the connection here.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the ex-main man at AP was a big Swatch collector so the seed may have been sown then.
It will be interesting to see…
Theory that it might be a pocket watch

Very interesting.
If they release an AP Swatch in the style of the Moonswatch or Fifty Fathoms, then obviously they will sell millions of them. There will be queues around the block for 12 months or more.
But if, as suspected, they release it as a Pop model, then that would just be really weird, and massively less desirable. No doubt it would also cause hundreds of 3rd party cases and straps to be created to re-house the AP Pop.
Not saying there won't queues to buy a Pop model, but it would just be a bit odd I think.
I guess all will be revealed.

What is the appeal of moon swatch? I can understand them for aspirational young uns, but I see middle aged, balding men wearing them and it appears a little bit desperate.
Just that plastic build, cheap nasty strap.
If it had some of the build and craftsmanship of the real thing, for a cheap price, I could totally see the point. But it looks so cheap, like a toy. Like if Porsche did a collab with Smart and rebodied one of their city cars to look like a 911, but with non of the performance or handling, I d equally question the point of it.

I don’t know, maybe people just thing they’re a (relatively) cheap bit of fun? And they’re not as bothered about what other people think as you clearly are. Just that plastic build, cheap nasty strap.

In my view, there are much nicer watches at that price point.Edited by wyson on Saturday 9th May 14:47
Boggles my mind how these companies are diluting their brand. I have an old Omega but would never buy a new one after the swatch collab. Snobbery? Absolutely but if watch people are honest that's what a lot of it is about the brand. Why on earth AP have done this is beyond my comprehension.
