Tudor Pelagos FXD
Discussion
So I m looking for purchase a Tudor Pelagos FXD. I originally had wanted to purchase the blue faced dial:

I did however consider that it be too close to my blue faced Pelagos below:

So I was possibly considering one of the black faced dials. I m just torn between the FWD and the FXD GMT models.

If anybody has any of these I would be interested to know your thoughts and would appreciate any photos of them on the wrist etc. also interested to know what anybody else would choose from these thanks all.

I have the black for sale at the moment, January 2025 full set incl. original receipt, very little wear, black rubber strap never worn.

I like it, I really like it and I think it is "The Modern MilSub" but I'm just not a modern watch guy and am sticking to vintage... And have yet another vintage Snowflake coming next week. Part of the reason I didn't try too hard to sell it is I do think they'll be A Thing in the future, with a big US Military following but I'll have long since shuffled off my mortal coil, I suspect.
I haven't been able to get on with the modern Tudor blue, so it was no contest for me between black and blue and, as you say, you already have a blue Pelagos. I do find the modern Tudors wear well though and whilst I'd have preferred this at 39mm instead of 42mm, despite my cart horse wrists, for the 'vintage' callback, the Ti case and NATO means it wears very light.

Thanks for the detailed comment. I really appreciate it. I ve been more drawn towards the GMT model but I haven t been able to see one in person. By all accounts it s being discontinued so nowhere seems to have one in stock. All the reviews on YouTube state it s much nicer in person. I do however like the black one you have too. Difficult to choose without seeing them in person.I like it, I really like it and I think it is "The Modern MilSub" but I'm just not a modern watch guy and am sticking to vintage... I know what you mean by the military following and ‘shooters wear Tudors’ thing. Being a military man myself I do appreciate them. I do love the vintage look watches like the MilSubs as well.

If you are open to the concept of 'homages' and spending a couple of hundred on a 'trial run' (on the basis it may reduce the risk of a much more costly mistake), Tactical Frog or Watchdives might have a model that interests.

Trial run is not a bad shout! I was interested when the GMT first came out but... it just seemed a bit more 'busy' for me, perhaps not so MilSpec. I think it is probably 'more watch' but then they're not cheap anymore. I paid substantially less for my 16710 a decade or so ago, albeit that's inflation for you! The 'simplicity' of the black watch and 'traditional' colourway won me over. The blue may have been popular on release (albeit I am not sure it holds up so well on the secondary) but it's not the shade/tone/call it what you will of the vintage blue Subs and I don't think it has resonated with the die-hard Tudor collectors, despite the attempts with the MN linkage, etc. Maybe it tried too hard? Hence, I think the black is The One for the future, with the USN, etc. following... but one must always pick what they like and not worry about the rest.

IMO the problem with the black and the GMT is they take away from one of the more interesting quirks of the original, the count down bezel.
Absolutely fair shout... But I'd also have it on my personal list of things that made the blue try too hard. The "MN" engravings, etc. give me a bit of a cringe. Suspect they were aimed at those of us who own/collect Tudor Subs (how much would any of it 'mean' to others?), on release, and I think history shows it fell a bit flat. For what it's worth, I'd also consider a Pelagos 39. No date, the more 'traditional' size, snowflake, etc. Wears well on a NATO to change it up. Probably as different to the OP's blue Pelagos than the FXD?What's the drive behind getting an FXD, OP? I guess recommending the P39 might be to miss the point but to dig more of a hole... there is the odd bargain original Tudor Sub around for reasonable money. I picked up a blistered dial (common), service insert, but running well, movement-serviced 7021 Snowflake recently (the first date Snowflake) for a good bit less than an FXD at full retail. I have rather fallen in love with it and, for the money, despite being ~57yrs old, it makes an excellent daily wearer.
Or... does it need to be Tudor at all? Apologies if I have gone off on a tangent. The reality is... the FXD is a great watch and there arguably isn't anything more 'Mil', better, new in the market.
I have a Mn 2023 FXD from new, the straps arnt realy worthy of the Watch , there just not very good l. I wear mine on a Rubber Zulu diver . The watch is lovely though.comfortable accurate and the loik and feel is beautiful with the blue and ceramic.
I also have the 2 liner ETA Pelagos. Which I also love and chose that over the thicker in-house version with the busy daily.
I would recommend trying them on.
But personally I really love the Mn Fxd

I’ve got a pelagos 42mm that I’ve put on its rubber strap.
I did this as I really wanted the red bull carbon fxd but decided to buy a Breitling Navi BO1 as for me the FXD does the same function as the Pelagos.
Now I’m eyeing up my next watch and tbh thinking of getting a Tudor Ranger (cream dial) as I don’t have anything like it.

For me, it'd be the Alinghi RBR issue

Carbon case, velcro strap, red details, I don't even mind the RBR script on the rehaut..
Strangely this one and the cycling one is are what all the Tudor stockists keep trying to convince me to buy instead. I don’t believe they are very popular which one of the sales team confirmed.Carbon case, velcro strap, red details, I don't even mind the RBR script on the rehaut..
