In the midmarket Chrono watch space I ve been looking at Tag Autavia and the Omega Speedmaster moon watch

I ve decided on the Omega black face on a leather strap which is coming in about £7000. I know there s discounts but I ve never bought an omega before I m a Breitling Rolex type of guy so what discount can I expect and where s the best place to get a new Speedmaster moonwalk..

Just to add, I’m astonished the watch with a leather strap at £7200 and the watch with a fabric strap at £6200. How the hell can a strap be £1000?

10-15% is not uncommon on Omega but I would recommend looking at the pre owned market as well such as Watchfinder for one example because you may find the saving tempting, even if you have t buy a new strap from Omega.

Because they're taking the piss .. you can buy the strap and buckle from them for £520 RRP.

If it were me, I'd just offer subdial £3750 for this one;

They'll probably sell it at £4k, add your leather strap after and enjoy having paid £3k less

I prefer the Speedy's on a fabric/nylon/rubber strap over the SS bracelet, although its probably better to buy with the SS bracelet in the first place and then swap out.

The bracelet on these is really nice. I’d get it on a bracelet and buy a leather strap.

Aha they are different with Hesalite and flyback on the leather strap and none of those on the fabric - but I will still go used I think

I was toying with the idea of the new Speedmaster moon watch, the sapphire sandwich. I nearly bought one about 12 years ago, in fact I've still got the photo of it on my wrist with the price tag of £2,880 (hesalite). I had a look now at the latest sapphire one and it's £7.5k! I nearly swallowed my own arse.

I do like the newest one, love the bracelet and the fact it's co-axial appeals too. Looks like they are about £5.5k ish on eBay, that's a bit better. I've always wanted one but never taken the plunge.

The strap isn't £1,000.

The two watches are different models.
£6200 steel case back Hesalite crystal
£7200 Sapphire sandwich with display back.

I don't get the Speedmaster on a bracelet, it's a watch that looks brilliant on almost any strap.

This might not be a concern to you, but personally I'd get it on a bracelet, then purchase whatever strap you prefer.

I always find it easier to buy the watch with the bracelet then buy an additional strap, rather than do the opposite.

I also bought a new Omega (Planet Ocean) from Hackett watches and was very happy with the deal, so highly recommended from me and many others on here. thumbup
