Slightly off topic I know but hopefully this is the right forum for this question.

My mother has given me a small quantity of scrap gold to 'liquidate'. There are some rings, an antique pencil thing and a half-sovereign.

What's the best way of selling these on without getting ripped off? My current plan is a trip to Hatton garden to get a few quotes.

The half sovereign should have a value of its own but the others - talk to a jeweller who makes jewellery and has his own foundry. There are still a few around.

My brother is a jeweller. If you want a value, weigh the gold, send me a pic and i'll get him to tell you what its worth.

The current price of gold can be found here www.kitco.com
Currently ~ 935 US $ per ounce

Bizarrely, when talking about gold, a Troy ounce is around 31.1 gms
