You'll probably need to report it as lost with the Police, get an incident ref. Then report it to...

Tag Heuer LVMH UK,

A little twist.....

Bought it from Goldsmiths Brent Cross

Person who served me was "Leigh" Well this donkey didnt fill in my warranty card properly...

Stamped the card and dated it, BUT DID NOT WRITE ON THE SERIAL NUMBER specific for my watch.

Tag cant help me, Police cant help me, Insurance cant help without a crime reference number

I have original receipt, proof of purchase etc etc and goldsmiths just keep saying sorry but im currently not covered and tag informed me that sicne the card was not filled out correctly your warranty was void in the first place.

Currently not a happy bunny.....

Lesson learnt, Drink less, and dont buy from goldsmiths

Any chance this would be covered by your contents insurance? In that case would proof of purchase be adequate for a payout, or do you still need a crime number or something even if it was loss rather than theft?

I'd be surprised if you needed a CRN for a loss, otherwise, I can now understand why they are always doing paperwork!

Well

I dont really want to get my parents home insurance involved as it wernt there fault.

Think im just gonna have to accept the £1500 loss and move on.

Now on the hunt for a watch

At least with rolex there documents are already printed when you buy the watch

Would it really have an impact on them if you did claim? Don't think there's any kind of no claims for contents insurance, and while the excess might still be hefty (mine's about £200-250 IIRC) I assume that would come out of your pocket so again wouldn't make much difference to them.

Gutted for you - I know how pissed off I'd be just losing my £40 Seiko 5, so can't begin to imagine how you must feel.

Do Goldsmiths not have some kind of stock inventory? Can't imagine they'd have many of one particular model of Tag in stock at any time - is it possible they'd have more details of the one you bought if you managed to talk to someone less f*ckwitted than 'Leigh'?

Spoke with the manager after speaking with teh sales person, assistant manager and someone else with another "title"

They have details of my name, address, but they dont keep serial numbers of watches they have in stock in which i find hard to believe.

How hard would it be considering they have my name, address stored already to have another box where you can input teh serial number.

Im going to write to the head office to explain to them that obviously they are not training there staff correctly nor are they competent in filling out "important cards/documents' and see what they say.

As well as tag, Suggesting them that in the near future why not put the serial number inside the tag heuer box

Really is incredible - they sell things that cost more than a lot of second hand cars, but claim not to keep any records of what they stock / sell.

Best of luck getting it sorted.

Sounds like the dealer should be trying to help a little more.

At the very least, do they not have a list of the stock they bought in at the time ?

Worth a shot, but you could explain to the Police / Insurance bods, 'It's one of these 30 serial numbers, don't know which though'.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I am surprised that they do not have any serial numbers on record, I say this as I see it, Goldsmiths is not covered under insurance as there is no way to prove their stock either. It is a shame that you have lost the watch, did you take out a specific insurance policy on the watch? If you did then the watch serial number should have been recorded. (all of my serials have been asked for when insuring items)
I hope this helps
Chris

Daft question, but you've not taken any photos of the back to show off on here have you ?

Assuming the number is stamped on the back.

Let me go back on what i said, I havent really got "insurance" on the watch, when i said insurance i meant on the basis of possibly claiming on my parents content insurance but i kinda got rid of that idea early on.

With regards to taking pictures, I didnt take no pictures to "show off" its a tag not a tourbillion

Like when buying the watch i was offered insurance but didnt think i would ever need it, just liek when they offer insurance on tv's, washing machines etc.

Im on the look out for another (used) because the replacement to the carrera i have is the day date at £2995 and for that money i might as well get a used submariner.

Snap, different jeweller.

Dom sorted me out with a replacement.

Moral, make sure they stamp and put the serial number on your warranty card.

I know exactly how you feel.

Gutted for you, hope you are able to replace it, can't go wrong with Dom.

They have records of everything they sell. I found this out today when I had to phone them since they didn't reseal my watch when I took it in for a new battery last week and now it's fked.

I can't see how you need/they can't find the serial number if you have all the original receipts etc. You don't need a serial number to report a theft, they just ask for it as it's easier for them to identify your exact watch if they happen to find it. Therefore, if you report it to the police as a theft you should then get a crime reference number regardless.

I'm not quite sure I see how this adds up, or are wires getting crossed somewhere? Indeed when I have had things stolen before, or when I was burgled they asked for serial numbers where possible but it wasn't mandatory and I still got a CRN.

I'd go back in to Goldsmiths and argue it out, it's not your fault the woman didn't do her job properly.

Good luck!

Did you flush it down the bog?

Mrs Shuvi lost a pair of sunglasses that way once, Amalfi it was, how we laugh now.

It's gone get over it.

If you can claim on a policy, goody. If you can't, see above.

It's only a watch.
