£2500 budget, what should I get?
Discussion
Rather than take the family on holiday, I've been utterly selfish and converted our £637.50 collection of Tesco deal vouchers into £2550 of Goldsmiths vouchers, so that I can go watch shopping!
The Goldsmiths small print means anything from outlet or duty free stores is out of bounds. As is anything on 'sale'.
A friend of mine who likes his watches reckons for that budget, Omega Seamaster is the way to go. (http://www.goldsmiths.co.uk/categories/watch-selection/for-him,2001-5000,omega-brand).
I quite like the look of this TAG Carrera Calibre 1887 (http://www.goldsmiths.co.uk/product/tag-heuer-carrera-calibre-1887-gents-watch-car2110fc6266). My boss wears a Tag Monaco, so he likes it. But my watch bufty friend reckons Tags are chavvy!
All other opinions much appreciated!

I have one with orange numerals and bezel
You can't go wrong IMHO

My wife would probably like the Speedmaster too - more money left over for her to spend on earrings!
Nice looking watch actually, will add to my short list.
Got to say I do like the look of the orange bezel Seamaster, but wondering if it will age as gracefully as black or silver
You'll probably tell me it's been around for 20 years next and I'll get my coat!

Bremont have a certain something that, for me, elevates them above the everyday Tag/Omega etc. types. Go to the city and every Tom, Dick and Harry has one. I've never seen someone with a Bremont. For me that makes it even more desirable as an ownership proposition.
Happy shopping!

I have a mate who has one, and they are certainly nice enough, but way over-priced in my opinion. Though I'd certainly agree they are streets ahead of most Tags.http://www.goldsmiths.co.uk/product/bremont-automa...

Agreed, its not really as in your face as everyone makes out. I have one with orange numerals and bezel

Its a great daily wearer for the money! Especially if you can get it below £2k, but as your using vouchers, this probably isnt possible.

That would be my choice.
Plenty of change to treat your wife, too.

I have the non-tachy version of this and as much as I truly love for all kinds of reasons, it's never ever worth £2.5k in my experience. Mine has had misaligned seconds hand, sticking date numbers that took it back to Tag 4 times in one year for them to fail at repairing it (they "owned" it for 10 months of that year) and a cracked sapphire crystal that cost an unbelievable £675 to replace. Yes, for a 35mm diameter piece of glass - this is not a typo.So sad - it's a beautiful looking thing with such great motorsport heritage

Buying again I'd be all over an IWC Spitfire Chrono.

One thing worth thinking about.
When I ordered my tudor the other day They said they belong to the same group as watches of switzerland so they can get anything in that they sell. They don't have much in store or on the website.
perhaps they could order in a Chopard Mille Miglia or something like that for you.

An full Orange PO is an occasional watch, you wont be able to live with it as a main wearer.Nice looking watch actually, will add to my short list.

Really loving this, and within budget.......

Buying brand new from Goldsmiths will get you lots of nice watches for your budget. I'd haggle hard on the price before even mentioning paying with vouchers.
Paying close to RRP on a new Omega etc. is a great way to suffer big depreciation. If you're buying to keep for ever, that's not an issue, but you must get what you like most, rather than listening to the opinion of others too closely or you'll be selling after a year.

Good points well made. When I was in the market for my MM GT XL I was astonished at what kinds of discounts were being offered from list. Best was c.£2400 vs. a £3010rrp. I very nearly didn't buy used.Paying close to RRP on a new Omega etc. is a great way to suffer big depreciation. That's the one! It's only down to the type of work i do that i don't wear it every day.
Not bored of the orange yet, and if it ever does happen then i can swap the bezel
