I'm after one of the Seiko 5s, exactly as pictured below. The part number is SNK809, but googling/ebaying throws up different variations of that - as in K1, K2, J2, and I'm sure there were others (one referred to one as a 'B').

Can anyone advise on the best one to get, or are they all the same?

Also - where's the best place to get one? I'm guessing it's on eBay via Hong Kong, or somesuch?

Sorry, can't answer your question, but... mmm... that is a nice watch! I presume it's quartz? If it was an automatic... mmm...

Not sure but I think they may be derivatives of the straps/bracelet. Careful about the duty should you go HK on e-bay; there's a few from the UK for around £70 on e-bay.

Says auto on the dial.

As to the OP's Q I can't give a conclusive response but "normally" K1 = the watch on a bracelet & K2 on a strap with Seiko

I think that the K1 is the metal strap and the K2 is the woven one.

Not sure about J1 & J2 though

edit: unless the 1 & 2 are the strap designation and the J & K mean something else? Maybe diff languages for the day?

I heard that "J" denotes assembled in Japan and "K" assembled in Hong Kong, maybe just a myth.

J is for assembled in Japan, and K for Korea from I have read elsewhere.

I have the same one - bought it with the metal bracelet, which was nasty and cheap - would defo go for the woven.

Stuck it on a Nato and it now looks a lot better - should have just bought the woven one in the first place and saved a few quid.

Not 100% sure on my model no. (just looked it over) but the languages/day thing might be right - mine has French and English (only notice it as it flicks over, goes to a French day for about an hour) No idea why it has it, but could be handy if I ever decide I would like the day abbreviated to something French.

J = Japan (usually with a 23 vs a 21 jewel movement); K = Singapore (now frequently assembled in PRC. With both 1, 2, 3 etc will relate to different strap and bracelet styles.

Yes, silly me of course it does!

getmecoat

Just hard to believe one could buy an auto with date AND day, made by a good company (Seiko) for under £100, that looks so lovely!

Has to be one of the best values watches out there doesn't it? When you consider some of the heinous pieces of filth that certain 'designer' brands are knocking out with quartz movements for 10 or 20 times the price of this, which don't even look as good. "Yeah, it's Armani chap. Like Philip Patek, yeah?"

  • goes to Ebay to start looking for a nice one
ETA:

Oooh! Diving version for £135! That is verrrry nice!:

I'm wearing that exact watch as I type. I got mine off ebay from a seller in Hong Kong, it took about 12 days to get to me. Great watch for the money and I'm about to put a leather strap on it as I'm not too sure with the woven strap it came with. I paid £42 all in for mine, absolute bargain.

Do a search on ebay.com for Seiko 5 Military and plenty come up.

I've decided I'm going to pick one of these up too. Prefer the khaki/beige face (SNK803) as I want to put a brown leather strap on it.

Can't seem to find a Japanese-made one though: does it make much difference? Creation Watches have a K for £62...

On second looks it's £55 for the K and £62 for the J... 15% more...
