Good evening gents,

I've had my 1968 PP Golden Ellipse for about six years now and the strap is looking rather tired. I've done the standard Google search in order to find somewhere that'll do a replacement but to no avail (although maybe a different search'll serve me better?).

So, does anybody know of anywhere that'll be able to sort me out with this item, preferably in Birmingham? Some people have suggested trying the jewelery quarter but not really knowing my way around that part of Birmingham I don't particularly want to stroll around it with a fairly valuable watch (both financially and sentimentally) in hand. I'd be willing to travel down to London if there's a notoriously good specialist or something down there too, as I figure London is probably where this sort of thing is most likely to be bought/sold.

Thanks in advance,
Adam.

Hi Adam,

Call David Reeves (top man by the way) at the Patek Philippe showroom in Old Bond St, here's the contact details;

Patek Philippe
15 New Bond St
London W1S 3ST
020 7493 8866

Or you could call George Pragnell at Stratford Upon Avon.

Merry Christmas!

The Jewellery Quarter isn't dodgy but it's not very geared up around high end watches. Do you want a genuine Patek Philippe strap or just one that will fit the watch

What sort of strap do you want? Do you want a Patek strap to use with your current buckle? A Patek strap with a new buckle? A generic strap to use with your Patek buckle? A new strap and buckle?

I want it to be all genuine Patek. There's nothing wrong with the current buckle so just a new strap would do it fine, although I'l admit to not knowing that you could buy them as separate items.

Thanks very much Dom, I'll look into both of those. I was in Stratford Upon Avon last week. If only I'd known!

Nearly all quality manufacturers supply the strap without a buckle, as the buckle is re-used in 99.999999% of replacements. Particularly when the buckle is precious metal, the prices of buckles start to get a bit daft.
I would have thought that any Patek AD would have to order the strap in for you, they would just need the width of the strap at the watch and the buckle in mm.

Cheers. I was about to ask how may I acquire this sort of knowledge but I see from your profile that it's sort of your specialist subject!

I have a Calatrava somewhere too but, unlike the one we're discussing here, it's without its original box and I can't for the life of me think where I might have put it.

I'd second speaking to Patek in Old Bond Street. Some straps are relatively less expensive than you might expect, some are very high.

I have replaced the strap on my 5022 officers, was about 130 quid, I will need to replace the world time strap soon and they quoted 260.

Thanks for that. I was hoping/expecting it to be around the £200 mark. If it cost much more than that I simply couldn't justify it at the moment.
