Or go to gurnsey/jersey and get 20% (no vat) plus any discount
Technically you can be charged import tax when returning to the mainland, as Guernsey and Jersey are 'Special Territories' in the eyes of HMRC. Is there a way to return on a light aircraft and avoid customs? Surely more of us would go for cheaper watches

About a year ago a friend of mine had one stolen. The insurance company put him in touch with a company that would sell him a brand new one for £11,600.
This is around the same as I paid for mine with a Earnest Jones family discount (from a friend of mine) back in 2009. From memory I think I got around 30% off a list price of £16,100.
Can't imagine they'd have gone up that much since then though?

You could still be inspected on any re-entry to the UK, but you'd be unlucky on a light aircraft or yacht.

I've been stopped by Customs coming back from Guernsey to France.

Surely you can just wear the watch
Send the box and papers back and you would hopefully get away with it.
In France they claim that they can work out watches that are new into the country though.
I personally doubt that unless the jewellers on the Channel Islands provide them with the S/Ns of sold watches...
