Chaps,

So what do you think to display casebacks? As that's a mod service I'm seriously considering.

Say for example the Rolex caseback below?

If the movement is nice enough, they are a nice addition.

I love display backs, providing the movement is nicely decorated. However I'm not sure I'd opt for one as a modification ... I'd miss the original, if that makes any sense silly

I love them as an original feature, not sure I would modify to achieve it though.

I have one on my Tag Carrera, and I really like it. It is good to see the look of amusement / amazement on non watch lover's faces when they comprehend it doesn't have a battery. Seems to really bring it home to them it is a little miracle of engineering in minature.

I also have one on a couple of Seiko 5 variants and that is also astonishes people that you can get something with a mechanical auto movement for £40 (5) and £100 (Neo Mini monster)

I'm not sure about the Rolex, as they haven't really bothered to do anything with the rotor. Then again, with a solid case back why should they. Still a shame though.

Doesn't bother me. Nice if it has, but otherwise watches are for wearing and it isn't something to see...

I too like to see the movement on mechanical watches but only if it's been designed that way. A lot of mechanical movements are rather plain though. Quite like this casebase though:

Clear case backs thumbup

Bry, how does it affect divers though?

I guess some larger producers who buy in movements and don't "personalise them" don't like advertising the fact hence no display back...

Hi there,

The glass thickness could always be overbuilt so say 3mm instead of 1.8mm etc etc.

Love them if it's a good looking movement. Also love skeletons too but don't have one yet

I like them original as others, but wouldn't bother spending more money as a mod.

I like watches with a clear caseback, but don't think I'd modify any of my solid caseback watches.
