Stitching looks a little wonkey on the left hand-upper side of the strap?

Looks cool though. I reckon it would look very good with a matching DLC'D bracelet.

IMO the Omega looks better on a leather strap particularly a padded jobbie.

Love the look of the DLC'd SMP but that strap looks pants. How much roughly would the DLCing cost?

Hi there,

I'm actually trying a new DLC coater as the Swiss firm I was using was expensive.

Once I get the next batch of SKXs Seiko's done I'll have a better idea of price, I would like to think full strip down, satin finish and DLC coating would be less than £250-£300 tops.

I still fancy you doing a Sub for me, Bry!

Loving your work, but prefer the Omega on the bracelet, like the others!

Cool Dom,

Biggest problem I have is no one in the UK is interested in DLCing wrist watches and the ones that are WANT £500 to DLC a Rolex sub. The Swiss firm I used were good but were strict about customs declaration I'm trying a new firm that sounds very promising and less worries with customs taxes and expensive coating costs.

I think it looks really great with the bracelet done also but not so good with the strap.

You're a bit clever with watches... is it not something you could do yourself with the right equipment?

Oh, right. Bit expensive outlay if all they want to do is coat watches. biggrin

What else do they do with it? I'd have to coat everything to get my money's worth. What price are we talking about then?

They coat about everything dude!

So for example CDs, DVDs, machine tools, body implants, motor sport engine parts even coat the special films for solar panels and optical coatings etc etc.

Highest hardness they can coat is upto 10,000HV so diamond hardness and greater!

Well, exactly, if it was that expensive I'd coat everything, too. My phone, my computer, my tomatoes, my bed... oh, wait, you meant... biggrin

So they don't just blacken stuff?

Yep a lot more than just blacken most of the coatings have a purpose like to reduce wear, increase hardness, reduce glare etc etc

Ah, right. Are there any other ways of coating a watch, then? I know using a black marker pen is a waste of time. redface

On the other hand, if you want to colour up indentations in a bezel because the paint has worn out, I found that you can apply a black or red marker pen then wipe the smooth surface, leaving the indentations with the colour you applied. thumbup </peasant watch modifier>

Hoof,

Always lots of black coatings available like black chrome, black PTFE/Ceramic Gun kote, Dark grey parkerizing, black oxide coating, black powder coating, even black Hammerite LOL, BUT PVD and DLC offer the best hardness and wear properties also makes assembling the watch straightforward.
