Any opinions? Are they absolute trash? I am pleased after five years of Steinhart ownership with my Ocean which was a very similar price point so I know it can be done OK at this price point.

If you like it, go for it.

The customized Spitfire rotor on the Miyota 8218 movement is a thing of beauty.

People pay thousands for Bremonts; why not get the AVI-8 for 5% of the price?

I’ve got 3, each from Sqn I have served on. I also have a limit run of 50 for sentry airborne technicians (for me there all on display with my aircrew issued watch) I don’t wear mine.

But I know a lot of guys that do wear them and I’ve heard nothing bad about them.

I've had two Steinharts. I still have one, the other was stolen.

I don't like the look of Avi-8s but, as has been said, if you do, buy one. Miyota is tried and trusted.

Oh, and my recently sold Bremont is currently for sale on WF. Just saying... smile

Thanks chaps. I might take the plunge if I can sell my old 2001 era Oris BC3 for decent money. Where's best to do that?

I'm sure others have opinions, but I've been very happy with the service from Watchfinder, as well as the price paid. For my most recent sale, the time from contact to money in the bank was less than 48 hours.

AVI-8 does not remotely compete with Steinhart.

I've had a look at the AVI-8 range and apart from the marketing crap trying to link them to aircraft I can't see any reason why you would specifically refer to Bremont in your reasoning here? To me it's no different to telling someone considering a Patek to go for a Casio for 00000.5% of the price ( I guessed at the number of 0's by the way) hehe I've got a couple of Bremonts and can't find anything similar in the AVI-8 range. Each to their ownthumbup

Bremonts are the kings of marketing crap trying to link watches to aircraft etc.

I particularly liked their Concorde special edition that featured a clipping from Mike Bannister’s toenail inserted in the rotor.

I have a pre aviation theme one that is a homage to the Navitimer 1. Don't know how old it is... more than 10 years I think, it runs fine with a Miyota automatic movement. My lad has one of the Royal British Legion mechaquartz ones and that is fine too.

I’ve worn one for work for the past few years and it takes a bashing. Had to paint the hands though to be able to tell the time. Still pleased with it.

Well in the video he says it's a Meadow Brook and there's one of those on their website in my link above.

Of course, the company is linked to aviation and actually puts some effort into it - the MB range being designed with Martin Baker and so on.

Breitling do the same thing. They play up to their history with aviation all the time. Do special editions etc.

AVI-8 on the other hand, wouldn’t be caught trying to market their watches by linking them to aircraft. Never….

‘A tribute to arguably the most iconic plane from the WW2 era. The Hawker Hurricane Classic Chronograph is characterised by a simplicity that echoes the design of its namesake. Clean, bold lines surround the dial on which the colours and graphics celebrate the fighter plane’s simple but striking motif that identified the Hawker Hurricane.’

It might not work for you, and I totally understand that, but it works.

The marketing also has nothing to do with the quality of the product.
