Omega Service

Hello all,

I have just realised my Omega is overdue a service(!), I received a quote from an AD who quoted I think £800 as it is a Chrono model.
As it's out of warranty, can anyone recommend a reputable alternative?

When you say 'overdue' do you mean more than 5 years or not running properly and so needs servicing? I'm no expert but I think the 5 year thing is overkill.

I've had my Planet Ocean for 9 years and it still keeps perfect time so no intention of servicing it yet and my Wife's Rolex ran fine for close on 20 years until it slowed down and needed attention and it's not like it cost any more to service at 20 years than it would have done at 5 so, given the cost I'd leave it until it needs it.

All IMO, others will differ.

That said, I'll be interested to see the recommendations for when the time comes.

I've always had my Omega serviced by Omega - but not always on time. When the services has found issues, or where I had flagged issues before hand, they have often done the repair at either a discount or for free (minor things) as its always been serviced by them. What I am trying to say, is that saving a few pounds on the service may cost more in the long run.

My Speedmaster went in last week £825 so as you say not cheap. Mine was running 20 secs a day fast. Prior to me buying the watch it had been stood unworn and unused for 5 years which I'm assuming won't have done it any good

I had my Omega (Seamaster Aqua Terra) serviced (and repaired - one of the cogs somewhere had sheared and bits were caught in the movement) by these guys and they did an excellent job (using genuine Omega parts) for a fraction of quotes I received anywhere else I asked.

Mine was working fine, but after 20 years I thought I'd get it serviced to make sure it was still water resistant so I could wear it while swimming.

DO NOT POLISH I said, and it was clearly written on the form. The watch was returned, and guess what? Yup.

I had mine serviced in October after 7 years, when it stopped and wouldn't run.

I was told that nothing was broken, it just needed servicing.

I took it to a well regarded Omega service centre who people have used on here......It was £550 I think.

But, I had to send it back a week or so later because it stopped again - apparently "the resistors needed cleaning up" - surely that was part of the service I paid a lot of money for?

I wouldn't use them again, although it runs fine now.

Swiss Time Services www.swisstimeservices.co.uk are Omega certified and have always serviced mine. I tend to wait until it stops working though, as opposed to having a scheduled service - something goes wrong every 7-8years, each time sent to STS and it comes back looking like new. It s a Speedy Pro and is my day to day wearer - last service 2025, paid £730ish I think.

I have a Seamaster (the JB model, so quartz) bought in 1997. It's my daily wearer. Always have it serviced at STS, usually every 2-3 years when a new battery is required. Also I have the seals renewed and the watch serviced. And I ask that the exterior is not refurbished/polished as well...I like the well worn look especially of the bezel, less bling.

Last sent to STS in 2024. Cost: £350 for the service and battery replacement.; additional one off work-replacement crown, and replacement crystal (badly scratched): £155. Plus VAT and mailing, total £624.

I’d love to know what a £350 service on a quartz watch entails if it doesn’t include polishing. It sounds like a £350 battery change and pressure test to me!

I was wondering the same! Never actually had a quartz watch serviced, didn’t think they needed it!

I had my Omega quartz serviced after 8 years about 8 years ago and since the low battery warning came on, I spoke to my local AD. They advised that ok to have a battery change and pressure test now and then next time have a service. They say every 10 years is fine.

From memory last time, they changed the crown and some other pieces that came back with the watch. IIRC despite being a quartz there are still some moving parts that may need checking/replacing.

I had my Seamaster serviced after 5 years, when I found I was unable to wind it up manually, the whole mechanism seemed to be seized, anyway I took it to the AD in Meadowhall and it was away for about 6 weeks and cost me £600.It did come back looking like new though with a little bag of bits in a nice red box, and I got a nice Omega pen too..

I had my Speedmaster serviced in November. I took it into an Omega service centre and they sent it to Omega (Southampton). About a month later it came back and they relieved me of £855. Yes, it's expensive but would you skip servicing on your car and run it on old oils?

Those two things are very different and cannot be compared.

I've serviced them, this one I did only a few weeks back
But what Omega do is replace the movement, most quartz only last around 20/25 years

Spookily identical to me. Handily I have a mate who lives in Hockley so I don’t even need to risk a courier.

I never service a watch until it stops. A repair is almost identical to a service and a very similar cost unless something major has broken.
