I have a good few Goldsmiths vouchers that could do with being used up.

I looked through their site and came across this:

http://www.goldsmiths.co.uk/product.asp?pid=4982

I know diddly squat about watches but really like it. How is the ML brand perceived amongst watch aficionados?

I am a big believer in buying something because you like it but I like to know if something is basically tat - so I'm asking you guys and gals.

Any opinions on the quality / value for money would be gratefully received.

(Whatever I buy has to come from Goldsmiths - I am also looking at a Raymond Weil too)

It uses a Quartz movement, which means it is powered by a battery.

Automatic movements are generally better regarded. They don't have a battery, but they do require servicing.

There is a recent thread that discusses Quartz V Mechanical movements.

Some people might consider £650 to be a lot for a watch with a Quartz movement!

I don't know anything about ML, but they do have some nice looking watches!

Oris are probably worth a look aswell!

Edited again as I forgot to actually make a point

I have that watch. Nothing more to add really, buy it if it's what you like. I use it as my casual watch as its understated.

I get the feeling that it isn't a particularly special time-piece to you, is that because it's quite plain or because you have other, special watches in your collection?

I don't have that model but have Miros or something. At the time I loved it but I was a n00b in those days and it served me well. They look good and their build quality is awesome. Designs are good if very traditional.

I'd take one over a Tag.

It has no sentimental value, where some of my others do. I have found that the case has marked very easy.

Nice watch but I note it's cheaper at Jura plus they give you all the freebies
