Thought I got out of buying my wife a Chanel J12 but it came up in conversation again today. Everytime she spots one on the telly she drops hints.
So looks like Im going to have to give in and get one.

But tonight I was looking at watch sites and noticed that the 33mm is a Quarts movement ??? This cant be right on a £2,200 watch ??
Apparently the 38mm is an Automatic.

Is the 33mm Chanel J12 really a Battery operated watch ????

He's making a comment about the fact that you've been a member for a long time, with very few posts. In jest, I'm sure smile

I've just checked out the site and it does seem that they are quartz movements. Probably, I suspect, because it isn't possible to make an automatic movement fit into such a small case.

What colour do you want? Watchfinder.co.uk has one for £1445, but that's still a lot of money for a quartz.

It can be right, i know it is incredibly expensive but Cartier do the same on one of their ballon bleu watches.
My advice would be to go for the automatic version, it is around the same price. I think that the quartz version has ruby's on the face, hence the price hike.

Yes, some of the J12 are quartz but if possible spend a bit more and get the auto. I have a black cermaic J12 auto full size mens and my good lady likes it that much she wants a white ceramic. They are fabulous watches.

Some (all?) of the Cartier ones in the £3k price range are quartz too. Again, save and get an auto or look at second hand. I was looking at two gents Cartier in Mappin & Webb at Heathrow T5 the other week, both were quartz, one was baout £1500 and the other £2500. I bought as econd hand auto Santos instead.

Tag, Omeaga, Porsche Design etc. all make quartz watches well into 4 figures. Rolex may still even do but not sure about them.

Yes she does .... This is the one that she keeps spotting.

If i go for the 38mm then its an automatic, but my wife is only small and thinks it will look too big on her wrist.
Think we will have to go and try one on ...God help me !!

some of the 38mm are definitely quartz too.

But its a chanel watch, its much more jewellry than time piece. Im not sure what movement the autos they use but i'd guess its nothing exciting anyway.

Worthy of note too, is that you do seem to see an awful lot of fakes of these about.

Correct, jewellery, but I believe they are good timepieces too (some will agree, others will disagree). Mine is certainly accurate to a few seconds a day and does seem to be incredibly well put together, my Breitling was certainly no better. I understand the movements are, depending on the watch, modified Swiss of some sort (ETA?) or more recently modfied Audemars Piguet, which can't be all bad! A number of them are COSC if that's your thing.

Yes, must buy from AD or totally reliable source.

The 33mm is a quartz watch. The 38mm is available as an auto or a quartz. The pricing is comparible to Cartier, who charge a similair price for their Ladies steel watches.
I bought one (black J12 33mm) for Mrs H a couple of years back, I would confirm that are very well made, and there's not a mark on hers. This is due to the ceramic material used in the construction of the case/bracelet.
