New to this forum, don't have enough disposable to induldge in what I really like... currently have a Tudo Prince OysterDate, from the 40's...eas my grandad's...the only thing of worth he owned and he left it to me...one of 6 grand kids he had....anyway whilst going through the threads of beautiful Omega's, Breitlings and Luminor Paneria's I wnated to check out prices and models and turned up with this 'fake' site...
whats the thoughts on fake's??
http://ewatchbay.com/panerai-luminor-1950-swiss-ma...
laughed at...or understood for those not minted?

oh.... well if all kicks off I don't have to read on eh...what happens then? do all the people that are fortunate enough to afford the real deal get upset?
or is it the moral line of cheap fakes underminig the skill of the original watchmakers?
I can understand both views..if they're the predominant ones.... its just when things like the Luminor's which is SO beautiful ... then sometimes...temptation is too much...
Bring it on fake haters and fake lovers...don't force me to use the search function again

You can get much cheaper Panerai replicas than those. They're all tend to be the same quality as they're all made in the same factories in the Far-East.
I bought one for £70 but I lost it on a night out recently. I wasn't bothered. I prefered wearing it to my real watches on night outs, for that exact reason.

I can understand wanting something like this but I'd first look at what else is around for the £200-300 you've got - you can still get a very good watch which you can take pride in ownership with; imho fakes are OK (with the usual terrorist funding caveats) but the gloss soon falls off and you end up with a watch which you're less happy with. Even if you personally don't wat it for 'wanabee' reasons, that's probably how you'll be percieved.
I'd say have a good hunt around in your budget - there are lots of better alternatives which are as well reputed as the Rolexes of the world and it'll be something you can take a certain pride in and something that you'll get your moneys worth from.
Have a browse on this forum for some ideas of real watches in that price range - they'll be better vfm than a fake, even if you go s/h (which is even better vfm!).

I did exactly the same when I first discovered Panerai's. Knowing that owning one is a fair few years away, but really wanting one!! Couldn't bring myself to do it, though. 'cause then when I do get one in a few years time, it just wouldn't be the sameor is it the moral line of cheap fakes underminig the skill of the original watchmakers?

Some interesting reading there if you're after a Panerai "Homage".
Apparantly, some of the good fakes use the same parts/materials as the originals, and even the same movements. I'm sure the build quality won't quite be the same.
Always an interesting topic.
Personally I take great enjoyment from the years of lusting after certain watches, so that when you finally get it, the moment and subsequent years of ownership are wonderful.
Buying a fake just feels wrong to me. I wouldn't buy a Ferrari replicas as I'd feel like a t
t in it, and the same goes for wearing a fake watch.
As said above there are some very nice and highly regarded watches available for the £300-£600 mark that you'll love wearing and still get noticed.
I talked on another thread a few weeks ago about how my mate had bought a £80 Panerai in Duabi and how real it looked to the untrained eye. Well I saw him last night and apparently its broken already. Doesn't wind anymore and the date is stuck!

I have seen a fair few fake rolex and omega'a, and in my opinion, they look ok for a short period of time, then you notice they are not good quaility as they fall to pieces, and are a waste of money to me.
That said, I have when wearing an genuine watch been asked if its a fake, I smile and say yes its a good one, most of the time.
There are a fair few homage watches, to panerai and rolex around that are not trying to pretend to be the real thing, as in they are branded as a homage piece, gives the look, but not ripping off the name or brand, some are good value and quality.
These are alright in my opinion.

Have a look on Ebay to see whats about in the 2nd hand market, some well priced Omegas or MWC for PDV(black) cases,if Rolex's are your ideal watch check out the tudor range,Sinn and Seiko are not a over price watches and all the real thing with a 2nd hand value. It does not have to cost £1000s you just have to like and ejoy them.As someone said on here waiting for the right one is all part of the game!

I own some very nice watches; therefore, I wasn't asking where to find a watch at that price point. What I was interested in was what Mr. Noble would buy in the price range he suggested.

Just a few ideas here from 2 minutes of hunting.
There are hundreds on nice watches in the £3-600 area. You only have to look in a goldsmiths window. Seiko, citizen, Tissot, Hamilton, Breil, Sector, Oris, Tag Heuer, Raymond Weil etc etc all make perfectly nice watches in that price range.
I'm just saying that one shouldn't need to rely on getting a fake watch in order to feel they have reached a goal.

Some fantastic ideas there....thanks...not really got stuck in to a proper search before, so thats given me soe direction...I'm just saying that one shouldn't need to rely on getting a fake watch in order to feel they have reached a goal.
The idea of a fake Luminor Panerai was less about reaching a goal, and more about having that specific aesthetic on my wrist..
