I know Rolex's have increased in price over recent years but have Panerai too. I was looking at them again after some years and they seem more expensive.

I think the new prices have gone up, if that’s what you mean?

Second hand haven’t made money, unlike ss Rolex.

Some of the limited one’s have gone up. Ive just git a 172 Tantalum that was around £5000 new and they are selling for the £12-14 mark,if you can find one. They only made 300 total.

I've been looking at getting a similar watch to the one above in the photo, are they any good reliability and finish wise?

I've had the watch from new (2010) its a Panerai 177 its made from Titanium, only 11 a year came to the UK were as 33 steel models
Know as the 111 would make it across , It was discontinued in 2013 but was in production for 9 years .

I've never had a problem with the watch its a real head turner and it has everything a Panerai should ie; a sandwich dial which gives it a 3D look next a small sub second dial so you know its running and then most importantly of all .
Its a hand winder what's the point in having that cool looking crown system if you don't get to use it ever other day

I've had a few Panerai's, 190 , 292 and sold them but this is a keeper

I’m sorely tempted my either a 352 or 328 as would like to have a bracelet option. I believe it’s the same watch just different material?

Ideally I’ll find places to try them both as have no idea of the real world difference between steel and Ti..

Either way, I’m pretty sure that a Panerai is next on the list.

I have a PAM356 which isn’t a hugely popular model but I absolutely love it. Again not appreciated greatly but has held fast in terms of value I think.

It's a lovely watch but I couldn't get over the Tantalum / Tantalium discrepancy. I know that Tantalium isn't incorrect, but it would still bug me (although the fact it's worth thousands would offset this a bit I suppose)

lol - think we're in violent agreement. I have a PhD in Chemistry so I know that it's Tantalum and hence I too was horrified by the spelling, but looking in to it, it's an archaic but not incorrect spelling - so I see what Panerai was doing but to folk who know about this stuff it doesn't look good.

Particularly if you deal in this stuff each day - that must drive you nuts wearing that!

Suppose it's a bit like sulfur - the IUPAC guidance is that sulfur is the correct spelling, so over time, sulphur will become archaic in the same way as Tantalium has. It's just that the sulfur / sulphur debate is a bit more recent.

Anyway, nice watch smile

Thanks for the civil reply! Makes a nice change to the normal sarcastic reply! The funny thing is is that in one part of the paper work it says Tantalum and in another part it says the other spelling? It makes you wonder if its just a mistake!!! Lol

Had my 111 for 7 years now. Don't care if it has or hasn't appreciated since it's a keeper. Classical styling and lovely to wear and use.

If I get bored of it just change the strap!

I can't get over the fact that Tantalium sounds like the name of a strip club in Barnsley.

Bought my 177 twelve years ago , fancied a 176 but couldn’t source one .

Think I paid about £2200 ? , would that be about right ?

Hardly wear it to be honest, and keep saying I should wear it more , still got everything including the rubber strap which I’ve never used yet .

Lovely watch , surprisingly light fit it’s size as well.

I think I paid in back in April 2010 around £3450 my wife wears it all the time she loves it.
She only has a 6'' wrist but looks good
Never was a fan of the 176 for me it was the 111 or the 177 and that won hands down
The leather strap has never been fitted to the watch looks far to dressy for me

Nice

The somewhat weird thing about Panerai (might be a good/bad thing depending on your opinion) is that because they are so rare and distinctive you actually get random owners saying hi or acknowledging you smile

Also, having had one stolen recently it's nice to know the Paneristi look out for them wink
